My husband and I went to Nuestra for Valentine's Day dinner. Our first time and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the location, walked around the cute little downtown area after. The interior design is unique and art filled which is just up our alley, love all the unique touches. I am vegan and there were few, well only one option I saw on the menu - the veggies 'mesa bowl'. My husband is not, choosing to order 3 of the chicken tacos. We shared the chips/salsa/guac appetizer and I got the blackberry margarita which was excellent. We lived many years in San Diego and traveled Mexico extensively so we tend to be opinionated about Mexican food and we love the spice. I have to agree with other folks posting, the food is beautifully prepared. The chips are authentic, the salsa was a roasted tomato (best guess) and truly delicious. The guac was unfortunately bland. My husband said his tacos were somewhat cold when he got them. The food was delivered to the table very promptly so best guess this is because the tacos are served open face and there just isn't a good way to keep things warm that way. He also wasn't offered any taco sauce or salsa with them and said the chicken was relatively unseasoned. I'm afraid he's used to the way I make shredded chicken - with reposado/lime/chilies/seasoning so that it's savory but has a bit of a kick. But, I got it, because the lovely mesa bowl had few veggies (sorry, if I opt for veggies over meat then I do expect to get some veggies) - two slices of brussel sprout, some bell pepper and onion but little of that on a bed of rice / black beans. As far as seasoning, nothing special was going on there. I didn't dislike the dish, the items were well prepared as they were... added salsa and enjoyed the meal but I'd compare that to a meal we had at Christmas at Mi Corazon in Cannon Beach... we kinda wanted to bathe in their food. Well beyond my personal culinary talents and that's what's best about eating out in a fun restaurant... getting something truly unusual, something with just that touch. Nuestra Mesa was also the only restaurant I'd run across where the wait staff didn't offer dessert at the end of the meal. That surprised me, especially on Valentine's Day. We didn't ask, decided to go for a...
Read moreHow does this place have any stars? Honestly, probably a top 3 worst if not the worst food and service experience of my life.
Food was bland and extremely tasteless. Prices were insanely overpriced for the quantity and quality of what you got. And the fajita tortillas were tiny. Like less than kids size. Smallest I've ever had at a restaurant. Our daughters kids burrito had a giant red chili pepper hidden in it????? After we had to wait forever to get our food
The server was absolutely clueless and awful. Took forever to take our order, then the food took literally an hour, and was tasteless. To her credit apologized and acknowledged how long it was taking, offered to cover an extra item - we politely declined. I just wanted slightly better service, but once food arrived, disappeared again. Didnt ask us how the food was or check in to see if we needed anything. I was ready to bite the bullet and yet all we got were "thanks for being patient" mumbled to us once and no check ins. Trying to stomach the awful fajitas, the waitress finally comes over to ask (food is starting to get cold now). Ask for hot sauce to try to stomach the food. She disappears again for 20 minutes! Can't make this up. Now the food is stone cold. We are ready to leave. She's still nowhere to be seen. Have to ask hostess for check. Leave the rest of the very bad, 75$ (with no drinks!), bland meal. Many others were seated and served in the meantime while we experienced this over 2.5-3 hours.
I'm usually really relaxed. I stayed relaxed and composed the entire time (and honestly did towards her, I know its not all her fault, and have worked in service). But by the end i was extremely frustrated overall - was just repeated poor service and worse food as the night unfolded.
Do not go to this place unless you want to feel disappointed. Place for people to go slam a few margaritas and pay for overpriced, bland food and worse service. Will never...
Read moreFood was enjoyable. Service did me wrong. Talked to host. She said 15 minute wait but we could sit at the bar and she would come get us. I said, “do you need my name and info to hold a table?” Host, “oh no. I’ll get you.” After an hour at the bar I had to interrupt the bartender from their bar back work and ask if I could order since I clearly am not getting sat at a table. My food came out immediately and the quality was great. I felt they knew they had missed the mark with the seating issue. However, no one check in on us after receiving our food. I left my friend with my card to pick up my children from care. After 10 minutes no bartender had been reachable or to ask for a bill. I bring my kids in to collect my card and finish paying. The only way I got the bartenders attention (finally) is bringing my children which I got reprimanded for. Well, I’m just trying to pay you and leave. But now you run my CC which I can’t go leave my kids on the sidewalk by themselves. So I put them in the bathroom. When they walk out of the bathroom I get reprimanded again for having my children at bar. Maybe don’t have the bathroom by the bar? Maybe provide me a bill or have the bartender check on me more than once very hour? Maybe have the host take my info so I can sit at a seat and not have to worry in the first place about my children at the bar. I got reprimanded by your staff twice when you didn’t take care of my initial needs that I very clearly asked, “do you need my name and info to hold a table?” PS I took you metal salsa and guacamole cup because I didn’t want to get reprimanded a 3rd time with my kids standing with me to transfer the salsa into your plastic...
