BLUF: Terrible experience for allegedly sufferers - unprofessional stuff and contaminated food
I recently had an extremely unpleasant experience at 2nd Street Cafe. As someone with avocado allergy, I was looking forward to trying their sandwich after seeing a promising option to "substitute avocado for bacon" on their online menu. Unfortunately, my visit turned into a nightmare.
Upon receiving my order, I noticed that the sandwich had avocado in it instead of bacon. Realizing the mistake, I immediately returned to the counter to have it corrected. However, instead of addressing the situation professionally, the employee I encountered was incredibly rude and dismissive.
Despite explaining the modification I had chosen during the online ordering process, the employee insisted that I had ordered the sandwich with avocado. I tried my best to clarify the confusion, but she seemed annoyed and began speaking loudly, making me feel uncomfortable and belittled.
Eventually, she agreed to make a new sandwich, but shockingly, it had avocado on it once again. This time, when I expressed my inability to consume avocado due to my allergy, she begrudgingly removed it. However, the bread still had traces of avocado, making it clear that the sandwich was contaminated.
Throughout the entire ordeal, the employee continued to speak loudly and dismissively, asserting that such a mix-up had never occurred before and that I was the only one with this problem. Not only was this behavior unprofessional, but it was also incredibly insensitive towards customers with food allergies.
I decided to leave after receiving my corrected but still contaminated order, as I didn't want the conversation to escalate any further. It's possible that there was a miscommunication in their system regarding the description of the substitution, but that is no excuse for the way I was treated.
The disregard for proper handling of food allergies and the disrespectful behavior of the employee at the cafe is completely unacceptable. Customers with allergies should be able to trust that their dietary needs will be respected, and that their safety won't be compromised.
I strongly advise those with food allergies to exercise caution when dining at this establishment, as their staff's attitude and negligence could have serious consequences. I hope that the management at 2nd Street Cafe takes this incident seriously and takes steps to ensure such incidents never...

Luckily, I can now add this cafe to my lunchtime list! It's an adorable space with chalkboards on the walls, shelves lined with recipe books and knickknacks (giant Yoda Pez dispenser, anyone?), and a very cozy vibe.
All the sandwiches sounds deeelicious. I was feeling the Roasted Veggie Wrap, but unfortunately they were out of roasted veggies the day I went. Drat! What to do, what to do... Alright well I guess I'll stop trying to be healthy. The Chicken Melt it is. And I don't regret it one bit.
You can choose your bread (Italian white, rye, pumpernickel, etc.). The sourdough came perfectly toasted and was the absolute right call. For a melt, the sandwich wasn't overwhelmingly cheesy. There was a perfect balance of large chicken chunks, cheese, avocado, lettuce & tomato, and condiments.
When you come here, no matter what you order, make sure to get honey mustard on that sucker. This stuff is slightly sweet, creamy, and as you're eating, it provides a swift kick of spice that opens up your sinuses when you least expect it. Yessiree. The sandwich was big, so I wrapped up the other half for tomorrow's lunch. Our meal closed with a giant $2 peanut butter cookie, which we happily shared between the 3 of us.
Be aware that this place is cash only. And the sandwiches aren't exactly cheap (mine came out to be $8.50). There's an ATM inside, but you'll get charged a transaction fee, making the meal a few bucks more expensive. So plan ahead, or use LevelUp if you're...
Read moreI was in Boston for 24 hours and came here twice. I prefer to patron small/local businesses when I travel, and this spot had great reviews and was within walking distance of my hotel. The first time I ordered in person (no wait, my sandwich was ready in 5 mins), and the second time I ordered online and picked it up right when I walked in -- both visits were seamless and the staff was kind/patient when helping me decide what to order.
When I tell you they make made the best tuna sandwich I've ever had....10/10. They have lots of bread options (sourdough is my favorite) and the sandwiches are massive. I barely ate anywhere else during my trip because just half of my sandwich was enough for one meal.
They serve breakfast sandwiches too, which I hope to try next time I'm in town. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a quality sandwich...
