APR. 2024 UPDATE Pro-tip: If you download the app and create an account, you will get a welcome reward for a free affogato.
I claimed my reward today. The vibes were much better on a Friday night than the last time I was here. Very lively and different workers who were much more inviting. Gotta say, though, if I had to pay for this affogato, I would have been sorely disappointed. Although the coffee was strong and good, the execution was bad: the steaming hot coffee was immediately poured over the ice cream, so all of it melted in the 1.5 minutes that it took to walk to my car. I recommend they provide the ice cream and the coffee separately instead and let the customer pour the coffee themselves, as affogatos are traditionally served.
MAR. 2024 A warm day in Boston is always cause for celebration. New City Microcreamery has been on my list because the idea of a smoother ice cream through the process of freezing with liquid nitrogen sounded intriguing.
I was able to sample a few flavors and ultimately decided on the tres leches and baklava on a homemade waffle cone.
Pros: Both flavors were satisfyingly sweet, true to their names, and smooth. The tres leches had vanilla wafers, while the baklava had filo dough pieces and walnuts, which added some texture variety. I also enjoyed the waffle cone. It was thicker and chewier than store bought ones.
Cons: This was very messy to eat because the ice cream was already half melted by the time I was handed my cone (unsure if this is usually the case with their ice cream). I was also shocked by the price when I went to pay (almost $15)—it turns out that I was overcharged. They corrected this after I emailed customer support. However, although this was the first time this has happened to me at a restaurant, this was not the first for them based on other reviews, so be careful. The vibes were also off when I went: the workers weren't enthusiastic or welcoming, so I felt pressured to order and leave asap.
Overall, the ice cream was good, but I didn't enjoy my experience. So I would get this again but most likely at...
Read moreEstablished in 2015, New City Microcreamery specializes in a liquid nitrogen process that transforms ordinary ice cream into a creamy delight. Here's the scoop: the scratch ice cream base gets a 24-hour flavor infusion in the walk-in refrigerator, ensuring every bite is bursting with deliciousness. Then, the magic unfolds – liquid nitrogen, at a temperature of less than -300 degrees! The super-cold liquid nitrogen creates smaller ice crystals, giving New City Microcreamery's ice cream that incomparable smoothness.
Now, as the fall season unfolds, New City Microcreamery unveils its new autumn-inspired flavors: Nëwtellaroché: Dive into a decadent delight of creamy hazelnut base with crunchy hazelnut pieces for an irresistible chocolate-hazelnut experience. Tres Leches: Experience the luscious blend of a sweet cream base, vanilla wafers soaked in dolce caramel, and dolce caramel swirls, creating a creamy, dreamy sensation. Pumpkin Cheesecake: Embrace the spirit of autumn with the rich and velvety flavors of pumpkin and graham cracker pie crust combined into a harmonious ice cream. Apple Crisp: Savor the nostalgia of fresh-baked apples and oat streusel with every spoonful, complete with fall spice ice cream. Salted Caramel: Indulge in the perfect balance of sweet and salty, as smooth caramel meets a pinch of salt for a divine treat.

Read moreI initially wanted to give this place a glowing 5-star review due to the incredible ice cream they offer. However, my experience was marred by the attitude of a particular staff member, a young lady with a messy ponytail. Despite my friendly greeting and gratitude for her assistance in providing me with two ice cream samples, her responses were consistently brusque and unwelcoming. While I understand that people can have bad days, I was taken aback when I noticed a stark contrast in her behavior towards different customers. It appeared that a white lady who came after me received a warm smile and a friendly greeting, while an Indian gentleman who followed her encountered the same unfriendly treatment.
To my disappointment, my friends who ordered after me also received similar treatment and observed the same unsettling disparities in service. It's regrettable because we traveled from out of town to experience New City, and this rude staff member made our visit far from enjoyable.
On a positive note, I must commend the young woman with the red bun, who was genuinely sweet, welcoming, and friendly, as well as the young woman who handled our payment. I hope that the unkind associate can take a cue from her coworkers and strive to treat all customers with respect and kindness, creating a more inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere...
