It was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas. I and Beth decided to eat there. From the name one would assume it was a Japanese restaurant, but it is a Thai restaurant.
There was complementary bowl of clear broth soup. It was good.
Ordered one order of Spring rolls. In one order there were 4 spring rolls, each about the size of a ring finger and length of a little finger. The Spring roll was excellent in taste and texture. Double the size would be normal.
The only time I ever ate a duck was 'Peking Duck' at Chinese Restaurant in Columbus in 1960s, the time State of California made it illegal to serve authentic Peking Chicken because of their marinating process at room temperature. For dinner, both of us ordered Duck curry. It was sweet and spicy curry, served with side of 'sort of sticky rice'. The curry sauce was good but duck was not edible. It was almost all bones, with very little meat on a drumstick. The duck was chewy and tough. If this is any representation of a typical Thai Duck curry, my suggestion is to order something thing else.
The dinner came with ground up fresh green hot chili peppers. It was one of the hottest pepper I ever ate in my life. They should include some sort of warning on the menu.
The wait person was a polite young men who could barely speak English. I wish they would hire one person who is fluent with spoken English.
It was not busy night. There was ample parking within...
Read moreWe arrive at Shogun at 7pm. The place is packed. My girlfriend and I approach the hostess and she asks table or booth? We ask for a booth, and she tells us that her server is eating at the booth, so we'll have to take a table. No big deal. We sit down, and our server greets us and we order a yum yum roll and a couple drinks as well as some hibachi.. Meanwhile, a table of 3 arrives to my left and another table arrives behind us. We wait. We wait some more. Time is dragging by and I try to catch my server's eye. She looks but doesn't approach the table, so I can't ask her what's going on. The table beside us gets their food. We wait. We get our yum yum roll and eat it. We go back to waiting. The other tables are being turned. People are coming and going. An hour has passed since we get into the restaurant. My girlfriend is getting impatient now, and wants to pay for our drinks and roll and just leave. So as the server goes by again, (she hasn't spoke with us, or came over) I yell out to her to grab her attention to see how long our food is going to be. Multiple tables that arrives after us have already come and gone. She goes back to the kitchen and we ended up getting our food. I suspect that our ticket got lost or something, but who knows. After a hour and a half there and being ignored by our server, I'm not sure that...
Read moreWe were so excited to see this come to Cambridge! We went there about 2 weeks ago. I called to see if they had call ahead seating and phone rang busy for hours. We decided to just go. We got on the hour wait list. Actually, waited an hour and 1/2. Atmosphere is cute and cozy. Booth was comfortable and high for privacy. However, we were by the door behind the host counter and froze. Not only that, the phone rang non stop and no one ever answered it. People were coming in to order take out and they were turning them away. Food was at best ok. No soup and salad. Just soup with hibachi and we had to ask for it, as it had been 30 plus mins and we never got it. Portions are small compared to other hibachi in the area. Fried rice had no egg, and was like plain rice. Was not saucy at all. I had to ask for teriyaki to pour over everything for some flavor. I understand you are new, but not offering call ahead seating, answering your phones and turning away customers is a poor way to start out. We will continue to drive to Newark for the best...
