They sit on a prominent corner of Broad St. in Camden, SC, in a beautiful brick building with a small patio out front. The curb appeal is fantastic, & stepping inside reveals a large, open, upscale space. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who said, “How are y’all doing tonight?” then, “Do y’all have reservations?” I replied, “I’m by myself & no, I don’t.” (Maybe she thought I had a mouse in my pocket, given all the y’alls.) She said, “Oh, we don’t have any tables available, but the bar does.” I said, “Well, I guess it’s the bar,” & she just pointed: “Okay, right over there”—no walk over, no further direction.

The bar wraps around a service well—one side faces the kitchen, the other the front. I sat with my back to the kitchen, facing the dining room. There were booths nearby that stayed empty the whole time, but I wasn’t told if they were available. A trained hostess would’ve clarified or offered options. Most guests—especially solo—would’ve preferred a soft booth over a hard wooden bar chair. Instead, I was dismissed with a vague gesture & left to figure it out.

Thankfully, the bartender was great—warm, friendly, efficient. I told her I wasn’t drinking, just hungry. She brought unsweet tea & a menu. I ordered a ribeye, medium, with green beans & their house side salad (customized: no onions or tomatoes).

The salad was good—spring mix with apple slices & cranberries. Dressing was served on the side; I added it myself at the table. A solid house salad.

The soup & salad came out together, delivered by a woman I assume was a manager. She didn’t look at me, didn’t speak—just loudly chatted with another server as she set both down in front of the barstool to my left. She slid over a fork, knife, & napkin, then walked off mid-conversation. It felt careless, not classy.

Small note: they give you one fork, so you’re expected to reuse your salad fork for your entrĂ©e—not exactly fine dining behavior.

The soup? No clue what it was supposed to be. Bartender said it wasn’t like steak & ale. It looked like chowder but tasted like pork. It was lukewarm & unevenly heated, like it had been microwaved—hot on one side, cool on the other.

The kitchen behind me sounded completely overwhelmed. The chef kept yelling for fried egg rolls. Not once did I hear “heard” or any sign of organized kitchen communication.

To my left was a makeshift manager’s station—laptop, papers, two managers. One of them, maybe the GM or owner, was loudly chatting with her, dropping the f-bomb repeatedly. I don’t know if it was about a guest or employee, but it was inappropriate—especially sitting next to a customer. I looked directly at them to make it clear I could hear everything. Finally, he looked up & asked, “How is everything?” I said, “Well, to be honest, the steak’s a little overcooked.” He vanished. The manager muttered something to the bartender—“that seems to be happening”—then they both stared at me.

The bartender, staying composed, asked, “Can I get you another steak?” I said no—I just needed protein, I was hungry, & I’d eat it.

The steak looked nice with butter on top, but it was thin—under œ inch—and way overcooked. It had clearly been under a heat lamp too long. The edges were curled, texture was chewy, & though technically a ribeye, it lacked marbling or flavor. Maybe an ounce of fat on the edge, but not enough to help.

The green beans, however, were great—served hot & perfectly cooked with a fresh, crisp bite.

As I left, about 10 min before closing, a couple walked in. The hostess looked annoyed, checked her watch, & sighed as she walked past me. Says a lot about front-of-house attitude.

It’s a stunning space with serious potential—but they’ve got work to do. The service was chaotic, the kitchen overwhelmed, the steak disappointing. With proper staff training, better communication, & upgraded food sourcing, they could become the refined experience they’re clearly trying to be. For now, the looks outshine...

Overall its nice. The issues I had were its labeled as casual dinning but it's pushing fancy fine dining with the servings and price. The food tasted great but the servings were very small and the price was high. Another issue I had yes it's a new place but as I walked in the door my party had reservations and as people see the window seats seem to be the consensus of the most popular place to sit which are booth we told the hostess that we wanted a booth so that we could see the window or sit by the window, two different tables by the windows that were booths were open but we were told there was none available and that there was a booth in the back when they took us to said table with the booth we were literally behind a wall like we were in the kitchen where they prepped the food not even over by where they look at but almost in the closet. We sat down and thankfully we seen a dear friend who was a waiter there and he had the opportunity to speak and could tell by the look on our face that we were not happy so he helped us make arrangements and got us to a table that we were able to sit at a window. As we were dining we noticed that there was two or three different members dressed in business casual suits two men and a lady going around to the different tables asking how was the service how was the dinner so on and so forth to the best of my recollection I don't ever recall any of the three stopping by my table not sure if it was because I complained and got moved to a seating that I wanted to be at or if it was just a common mistake and was overlooked I say all that to say with the price of the meals the Elegance of the dining I would make it more specific as to where the reservations can be made I think since then it has been updated a little better but that may be something that needs to...

We had the pleasure of eating at BColson‘s several weeks ago. My husband and I had the most wonderful experience! The service was phenomenal. We were greeted at the door by the lovely host and was promptly seated for our reservation. Our server was wonderful and accommodating on our questions about drink options. The atmosphere was beautiful and the restaurant was a lovely, fine dining experience. As for the food, I can’t say enough of how amazing it was! I mean one of the best meals I have ever had and my husband and I have eaten at lots of dining establishments through the years. We ordered several entrĂ©es, appetizers, and desserts to get a rounded experience in trying out this new restaurant. It definitely didn’t disappoint. We had the Caesar salad, two steak entrĂ©es, the crab-cake appetizer, cheese fry appetizer, and then to end the evening we had a crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e and a banana foster dessert. I had the pink lemonade, margarita drink special to accompany my meal. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. The flavor was outstanding and I wouldn’t have dreamed to add a steak sauce to cover up its wonderful taste. Honestly, it’s one of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life. The Caesar salad was exquisite, and I don’t usually say that about a salad, but the dressing was perfect and it was very fresh and well-made. The fact that a salad could be so delicious is a statement of how much this restaurant cares about every detail down to the quality of its side salads. The desserts were heavenly! The owner himself checked on us during our meal to ask how everything was going. Honestly, I can’t say enough of how great our experience was and we will definitely be back. Drove from Lexington to eat there, and will definitely make the...

We had reservations for four on friday night at 6:45. We arrived about ten minutes early and still ended up waiting about forty minutes for a table. While waiting, we decided to grab a cocktail at the bar. There was one seat at the corner, and we gathered here. It took about 5 minutes before the bartender to get our drink order of : one lemon drop martini with house vodka. One house Margarita and two Don Julio margarita's. Total $82 without the tip. We were seated and ordered the firecracker shrimp appetizer times 2. It was very well seasoned and served hot. Delicious! For dinner: the boyfriend ordered spaghetti with meatballs, we had an order of chicken alfredo with pane pasta and the pork chops. I ordered a house salad and another order of the appetizer; I knew I would be sharing off everyone else's plate. The spaghetti was served hot and steaming. It was delicious! The chicken alfredo was also hot and steamy and flavorful! The pork chop steak was tender and flavorful. The food was wonderful. This is an upscale restaurant, so plan to drop some $$$$, but the food was very fresh and seasoned perfectly.

On this lazy Sunday, my friend and I decided to break our usual lunch routine and treat ourselves at B. Colson in Camden. The historic ambiance of the place immediately made us feel like we were stepping into a charming piece of the past with a chic twist. I went for the Lane Burger, which was an absolute triumph—a juicy, flavorful patty that hit all the right notes. My friend’s Shrimp and Grits were a culinary high note, rich in Southern tradition and flavor. I must mention, the parking situation did add a bit of an adventure to our experience. The trick is to find a spot in the back or the nearby parking garage; on-street parking is available too, in designated areas. A word to the wise, though—be vigilant about parking only in allowed spaces, as neighboring businesses won’t hesitate to tow unauthorized vehicles. Despite the minor parking challenge, the overall value and quality at B. Colson made it more than worth the effort. It’s not just a meal; it’s a delightful experience I’d recommend to anyone looking for great food and a touch of Camden’s warm hospitality.
