They sit on a prominent corner of Broad St. in Camden, SC, in a beautiful brick building with a small patio out front. The curb appeal is fantastic, & stepping inside reveals a large, open, upscale space. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who said, âHow are yâall doing tonight?â then, âDo yâall have reservations?â I replied, âIâm by myself & no, I donât.â (Maybe she thought I had a mouse in my pocket, given all the yâalls.) She said, âOh, we donât have any tables available, but the bar does.â I said, âWell, I guess itâs the bar,â & she just pointed: âOkay, right over thereââno walk over, no further direction.
The bar wraps around a service wellâone side faces the kitchen, the other the front. I sat with my back to the kitchen, facing the dining room. There were booths nearby that stayed empty the whole time, but I wasnât told if they were available. A trained hostess wouldâve clarified or offered options. Most guestsâespecially soloâwouldâve preferred a soft booth over a hard wooden bar chair. Instead, I was dismissed with a vague gesture & left to figure it out.
Thankfully, the bartender was greatâwarm, friendly, efficient. I told her I wasnât drinking, just hungry. She brought unsweet tea & a menu. I ordered a ribeye, medium, with green beans & their house side salad (customized: no onions or tomatoes).
The salad was goodâspring mix with apple slices & cranberries. Dressing was served on the side; I added it myself at the table. A solid house salad.
The soup & salad came out together, delivered by a woman I assume was a manager. She didnât look at me, didnât speakâjust loudly chatted with another server as she set both down in front of the barstool to my left. She slid over a fork, knife, & napkin, then walked off mid-conversation. It felt careless, not classy.
Small note: they give you one fork, so youâre expected to reuse your salad fork for your entrĂ©eânot exactly fine dining behavior.
The soup? No clue what it was supposed to be. Bartender said it wasnât like steak & ale. It looked like chowder but tasted like pork. It was lukewarm & unevenly heated, like it had been microwavedâhot on one side, cool on the other.
The kitchen behind me sounded completely overwhelmed. The chef kept yelling for fried egg rolls. Not once did I hear âheardâ or any sign of organized kitchen communication.
To my left was a makeshift managerâs stationâlaptop, papers, two managers. One of them, maybe the GM or owner, was loudly chatting with her, dropping the f-bomb repeatedly. I donât know if it was about a guest or employee, but it was inappropriateâespecially sitting next to a customer. I looked directly at them to make it clear I could hear everything. Finally, he looked up & asked, âHow is everything?â I said, âWell, to be honest, the steakâs a little overcooked.â He vanished. The manager muttered something to the bartenderââthat seems to be happeningââthen they both stared at me.
The bartender, staying composed, asked, âCan I get you another steak?â I said noâI just needed protein, I was hungry, & Iâd eat it.
The steak looked nice with butter on top, but it was thinâunder œ inchâand way overcooked. It had clearly been under a heat lamp too long. The edges were curled, texture was chewy, & though technically a ribeye, it lacked marbling or flavor. Maybe an ounce of fat on the edge, but not enough to help.
The green beans, however, were greatâserved hot & perfectly cooked with a fresh, crisp bite.
As I left, about 10 min before closing, a couple walked in. The hostess looked annoyed, checked her watch, & sighed as she walked past me. Says a lot about front-of-house attitude.
Itâs a stunning space with serious potentialâbut theyâve got work to do. The service was chaotic, the kitchen overwhelmed, the steak disappointing. With proper staff training, better communication, & upgraded food sourcing, they could become the refined experience theyâre clearly trying to be. For now, the looks outshine...
Read moreOverall its nice. The issues I had were its labeled as casual dinning but it's pushing fancy fine dining with the servings and price. The food tasted great but the servings were very small and the price was high. Another issue I had yes it's a new place but as I walked in the door my party had reservations and as people see the window seats seem to be the consensus of the most popular place to sit which are booth we told the hostess that we wanted a booth so that we could see the window or sit by the window, two different tables by the windows that were booths were open but we were told there was none available and that there was a booth in the back when they took us to said table with the booth we were literally behind a wall like we were in the kitchen where they prepped the food not even over by where they look at but almost in the closet. We sat down and thankfully we seen a dear friend who was a waiter there and he had the opportunity to speak and could tell by the look on our face that we were not happy so he helped us make arrangements and got us to a table that we were able to sit at a window. As we were dining we noticed that there was two or three different members dressed in business casual suits two men and a lady going around to the different tables asking how was the service how was the dinner so on and so forth to the best of my recollection I don't ever recall any of the three stopping by my table not sure if it was because I complained and got moved to a seating that I wanted to be at or if it was just a common mistake and was overlooked I say all that to say with the price of the meals the Elegance of the dining I would make it more specific as to where the reservations can be made I think since then it has been updated a little better but that may be something that needs to...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of eating at BColsonâs several weeks ago. My husband and I had the most wonderful experience! The service was phenomenal. We were greeted at the door by the lovely host and was promptly seated for our reservation. Our server was wonderful and accommodating on our questions about drink options. The atmosphere was beautiful and the restaurant was a lovely, fine dining experience. As for the food, I canât say enough of how amazing it was! I mean one of the best meals I have ever had and my husband and I have eaten at lots of dining establishments through the years. We ordered several entrĂ©es, appetizers, and desserts to get a rounded experience in trying out this new restaurant. It definitely didnât disappoint. We had the Caesar salad, two steak entrĂ©es, the crab-cake appetizer, cheese fry appetizer, and then to end the evening we had a crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e and a banana foster dessert. I had the pink lemonade, margarita drink special to accompany my meal. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender. The flavor was outstanding and I wouldnât have dreamed to add a steak sauce to cover up its wonderful taste. Honestly, itâs one of the best steaks Iâve ever had in my life. The Caesar salad was exquisite, and I donât usually say that about a salad, but the dressing was perfect and it was very fresh and well-made. The fact that a salad could be so delicious is a statement of how much this restaurant cares about every detail down to the quality of its side salads. The desserts were heavenly! The owner himself checked on us during our meal to ask how everything was going. Honestly, I canât say enough of how great our experience was and we will definitely be back. Drove from Lexington to eat there, and will definitely make the...
