Couldn't have been better. Zero complaints!
We visited around 1pm on a Sunday. The interior was clean. The decor was well thought out. The hostess was friendly and seated us quickly. Our table had plenty of space for our party of 5.
Our waitress came to the table and brought us drinks very quickly. The old fashioned was fantastic, so much so that we decided to order a second one and get it smoked. Both were great, maybe perfect! The bitters they use gave a nice variation on what I consider "standard". Additionally it was not too sweet (which is a mistake SO many bartenders make...but not here).
Our party ordered the fish and chips, the chicken sandwich and a hamburger. We also had 2 kids meals, chicken with fries, and a plain hamburger with fries. All of the food was fantastic. I ordered a side salad with my chicken sandwich and the ranch dressing is worth mentioning. It was clearly freshly made in house and delicious. All of the food was great, but the fish and chips was phenomenal. The fish was perfect, and the give you the little bits of extra fried batter (we always call them the crunchies). There was a fried pickle that came with the fish and chips and it was delicious (i didn't read the menu well enough to know if that was standard or just something that happened to get thrown in with our meal). If you're a fan of fried pickles, get the fried pickles! We were just passing through, but agreed we would be willing to make the 1.5 hour drive to come back and get the fish and chips again.
The burger one of my kids ordered had cheese, when she ordered it without, but the waitress noticed this without any prompting and had the issue fixed immediately (like as our second set of plates were being brought out, the burger was already fixed and brought back out). My daughter won't touch cheese, we have sent back ALOT of burgers. 1-I have never had a waitress pick up on the issue before we mention it. NEVER. 2- I have never had the issue fixed so quickly. We were very happy with the waitress!
Another mention on the phenomenal waitress. We were kind of wanting things to go quickly, because we did still have an hour and a half to get home. I never mentioned this, but I did ask for boxes fairly early in the meal. The waitress picked up on that, and was very rapid in getting us everything we needed in terms of check, and returning to process the payment, and stated that if we decided to add on desert or anything else, just let her know as it would be easy to add on.
The bathroom was clean, and smelled fresh. I also noticed that the hostess was very good about keeping up with busing the tables.
I really don't think I could have found something to complain about even if i was trying. We had a perfect lunch! Thank you to the owners and staff for creating such a wonderful dining experience for our family. Over the last few years it's become kind of rare to have wonderful food, service, and ambiance...
Read moreWe came with a party of six which included four adults and two children. This was our first time at The Highlander. It was packed when we got there which is usually a good sign that they have good food and or drinks. There was a short wait but it was less than 10 minutes. We started with four appetizers including the fried pickles which were perfect for any pickle lover. The mozzarella logs were amazing! I could have probably ordered that just for a meal. There was a seasonal selection menu that included yellow fin tuna and avocado which was so delightful and plated perfectly. We also got a pound of peel and eat shrimp with their house made cocktail sauce. The sauce was light with plenty bite due to the grated horseradish. As for the entrees they too did not disappoint.. The chicken and waffles were a showstopper. You better bring a huge appetite if you plan to finish it. It has two full chicken breast perfectly seasoned and fried, sandwiched between 3 fluffy waffles that seemed to have a sweet crunch to them as well. It’s also had crispy/candied style bacon and a cup of bourbon, orange maple syrup that was delightful. It was the best chicken and waffles I have ever eaten, hands down! The chicken fried chicken was huge and juicy! It was paired with homemade red mashed potatoes, green beans and white gravy. I was told it was the best chicken fried chicken she’s ever had. My brother ordered the Philly and fries, he said it was probably in the top 3 phillys he’s ever had. My girlfriend got The Highlander pie. It was rich, cheesy and creamy topped with red mashed potatoes and cheese. It came in a piping hot cast iron skillet adding to the presentation. The youngest had a plain burger and fries. He ate all of it so it must have been good usually he wastes a bit. The cocktails were fairly priced and they had some unique options. Including a green tea mule which was delightful. We really enjoyed our experience! Amazing food with large portions and amazing service. If you are in the Ozarks this is a most stop...
Read moreI might seem bias but this is my first job as a server. And as part of our training we have sampled a few of the menu choices. I love the atmosphere working here and it's only been two days but I already hold this restaurant in high regards for the how well they work together, cooks and servers alike. My training has been going well and the owners check on me everyday to make sure I'm getting comfortable in my new work environment. The owners are super friendly and check in on our customers too. Now onto the food and beverages. I have sampled several desserts and several drinks but only had one main course so far because they have so many options. The HPH burger is huge, most of their portions are rather large. The burgers are designed appealing to the eyes and the taste buds. The fries are seasoned differently than most restaurants around here and I got to say it makes the fries so much better... they also have an amazing homemade ranch sauce. The alcoholic drinks I recommend are the Lucky Lassie and I'm not much on strong drinks but their old fashioned is also great. They make alot of stuff homemade, including some simple syrups. The desserts I enjoy most from the samples are the Lava Cake and Banana Pudding. I Highly suggest checking them out, the decor is beautiful, the service is great and Highlander has a great team. I hope to serve a meal...
