Peet's Coffee — Restaurant in Cameron Park

I've been going to this Peet's for over 5 years, and have had close friends that worked there for most of that time, so my experiences are colored a bit by that context. I also have been in there for long stretches of time and watched their customer service and processes in progress. Peet's stakes the claim of being an artisan coffee shop so there is a bit of inconsistency in the quality of the drink you get there because it is heavily influenced by the barista making it. Most are well-trained professionals who make a good drink, but there is always the risk that they are too busy, not paying attention, or not comfortable adjusting the espresso machines throughout the day and it can lead to very noticeable inconsistency in the finished product. It's very rare that I have had to ask for them to remake the drink, but it's never been a problem if I could tell them why it wasn't right. The staff are friendly, but with 4 people working in the early morning, they seem to be focused more with filling online orders. I walked in around 8:15am, ordered food and a Cappuccino and waited for 15 minutes for the drink to be finished. There were only about 5 walk-ins during the entire time, and multiple people picking up their online orders at the side table. My food was cold by the time I received my drink, and it was not that great...more like a Latte. It seems to me that this is now an online business, and if you walk in, then you're going to be served second in the order of precedence. Very slow service. Only one barista was filling orders. One was standing around. Another was just filling the stacks of plastic cups. We got our food order first, but by the time our latte and americano showed up, the food had gotten cold. In addition, a young mother walked in with a young child who needed to badly use the restroom. The staff refused and had no empathy for the mother and child’s situation. They told her to go up the road a mile and use the restroom at the Target Store. What a bunch of losers. We won’t be coming back to this El Dorado Hills...
