I'll start off by saying the food was delicious. I had the veal entree, and shared the alligator bites, onion rings, and sweet potato fries with others at my table.
The food was delicious, when we finally received it that is. We had a reservation at 6 to celebrate some birthdays. We all arrived by 6 and were immediately sat which was really great. The servers were initially attentive, filling waters, reading the specials and making suggestions we were able to place our orders by about 6:15 and then we sat and waited...and waited...and waited some more. Around 45 minutes later, we finally received our appetizers and had to beg for a table full of water refills. Around 7:30 we were finally graced by the appearance of our entrees.
We enjoyed the food. As I mentioned, the veal was good, my wife enjoyed the regular burger, others enjoyed a steak. And we were again without water (spoiler: we never did get a second refill).
We ate for about 10-15 minutes and then most of us were ready for boxes and the kids were ready for their ice cream! Did I mention that the kids meal came with a scoop of ice cream? Well, the kids meal is SUPPOSED to come with a scoop of ice cream. They were very excited! It's the only thing that was keeping two 1.5 year olds and two 3 year old kids in their seats after an hour and forty-five minutes. 1 kid ordered vanilla, the other 3 chocolate. The vanilla child received their scoop and we were informed that the restaurant was out of chocolate. "No problem" I said. "Just bring the other 3 vanilla."
We paid our bills. It's about 7:45. And once again, we are waiting...and waiting...and waiting more. What are we waiting for you might ask? Well, a keen reader may realize that there was nothing mentioned about how the other 3 enjoyed their ice cream. That's because it never showed up. I asked twice and was told it was coming... It never came...
Tables behind me were complaining about not receiving their bread appetizer after 40 minutes. If you are following along with the time, it's now around 8:00pm. We finally just had to leave, thirsty and defeated...
I told the waiter that we had to leave. He was apologetic. It's not his fault. They are WAY understaffed.
Lastly, I'll add that there were two little girls (probably the owner's kids) who were super nice and sweet. They brought out some of their toys to share with our kids while we were waiting. The kids really enjoyed and...
Read more2023-1-3 For New Year's Eve 2022 my husband and I dined at C'est la Vie, the newly opened French Restaurant in Old Down Town Canton, Georgia. Oh, you lucky, lucky people, who live within the drivable Canton radius! The food, simply could NOT have been better; a most memorable End for the 2022 year for us. Everything was perfect! I had the Multi-Course Special New Year's Eve menu: One course after another; these French Chefs know exactly how to make perfection! It was one magnificent flavor ( and gorgeous presentation) after another. This included, to begin with, a surprise edible gift from the Chef: a Prawn misé en bouche" to have with our wine (French, of course!); then, a variety of ways to have oysters ( How do the French come up with these incredible flavors???); Fois Gras on freshly made Ginger Bread (The best that I have ever eaten!); devine herb marinated Venison chops (about which I am still thinking)! I could, instead, have chosen the lobster, however. Finally, fresh, (OH, so fresh) French Macaroons as the finalé of the evening. My husband ordered from the regular evening menu a fabulous creamed soup and Salmon Gravé Lox. We shared! We were having such a lovely evening that we lingered for two hours. Additionally, we were also entertained by a Magician for this special night; he was really good, too! Such unexpected fun. I strongly suggest that you book NOW for Valentines Day. Since they just opened, everyone will be trying to get reservations. This is a "Must Go-To Restaurant". We enjoyed every minute from these superb French Chefs! I noticed, also, that they are open at lunch time, as well, during the weekdays, except on Mondays. We even had a French waiter, who knew exactly how to serve a fine French meal. We were in Heaven. Located in an historic house, we also enjoyed the ambience, which includes both INdoor & OUTdoor dinning. Do I really need to add: "I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this Restaurant !" Don't wait for a special occasion. It is worth the drive from where ever you live; we drove from 35 minute away. So glad that we did! We will be back soon. Nann...
Read moreWe decided on a whim to try C'est la vie to celebrate my son's birthday. The food was good though the meat (steak and lamb) were a bit tough, though the portions were a good size - compared to other French restaurants we have visited in the past.
The atmosphere was pleasant - but we were in the back room and it was a bit dark and there wasn't any A/C. The fans were working, so we were fine. I think I would have enjoyed the space more if we had been seated in the front room where it was brighter.
The service really is where the marks fall. I had great hopes at first because our waitress seemed attentive. However, we had to ask for water a few times (kudos to the bus boy who was cheerful and attentive). (We don't typically drink much water at the table, but since the temperature was warm, we drank more than usual). We felt abandoned in the back, with only one other couple sharing the room. I feel our waitress could have checked in to see if we wanted more water or more wine. If the restaurant had been busier, I would excuse this, but it was not. Also, it took a VERY long time for the entrees to be served. I understand each dish is crafted from scratch, but this was a lot longer than expected. As I mentioned, having the waitress check in to refill water, or reassure us that the meal would be served shortly would have earned higher marks here.
Though the appetizers and entrees were tasty, the dessert was mediocre at best. The pastry I had (the "bike wheel") was a bit hard, and tasted like it had been refrigerated or a while. Food would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the dessert and the tenderness of the meat.
I would try C'es la Vie again, but for me, the lunch menu is more appealing and I would definitely request to be seated in the front room or outside (if that's available). Also, the bar looked very inviting - I'm not sure if they have a bar menu, but I would consider going there for a few drinks and appetizers with some friends. I'm not sure I would choose to have...
