Good food, bad service. Both locations. It is so frustrating. My wife is from Peru and there aren't many choices in Cape Coral for Peruvian food. Someone really needs to train the staff. You have to ask for everything, which is annoying because the servers are usually gathered behind the cash register laughing and chit chatting. They never refill drinks. Food comes out in no order. You may get one of your appetizers with 1 of the entrees at the same time, or your husband or wife may get rgeir entree and be finished before yours shows up. I once ordered the ceviche as an appetizer and it came out after my wife and I had already finished both of our entrees. They explained that the cook had to cook it first, which is really bizarre because ceviche is not cooked. And in a Peruvian restaurant ceviche is readily served as an appetizer which means it can be prepared pretty quickly. Last night we went and there were only 2 other couples there eating and we were a party of 6. Even know we had a reservation they did not have a table ready for us. So we had to wait for them to push some tables together and then clean them. But even know there were 5 servers and only 2 other tables occupied it was still a good 10 minutes after they sat us before I had to call someone over to take our drink order. The servers were huddled together lsughing and talking, literally doing nothing. Just when I thought the drinks might be coming instead she walks past us with a bottle of windex to go clean another table for somebody who is not even there yet. And then all of the food came out in no order at all. Some people were eating and some people were waiting at our table. Everything we needed we had to ask them for. For example they brought appetizers but no plates. We had to ask for utensils. We had to ask for drink refills. And the entire time the restaurant was very slow and they had 5 servers who were laughing and just standing around by the kitchen. And if you make eye contact they will look away real fast in what I can only assume is a way to avoid having to do something for you. We liked the food but we grit our teeth every time we think about going to either of their locations because we know the service is going to be bad. Sometimes they will stand with the front door open just watching the traffic and then when you sit down to eat you have 6 flies buzzing around you and your food. They will walk right past your table with empty drinks and not look in your direction. It is frustrating and we are almost ready to...
Read moreWhile sitting there with my family waiting on our food, another family of gringos sat next to us and after viewing the prices they fled... First time in this restaurant and service was friendly but not honest, unless this is an isolated incident. Furthermore, I explained to her how my experience in other Peruvian restaurants with "Aji de Gallina" was that the chicken was dry perhaps because their food sat in the back... She said confirming the food was fresh.
The chicken was dry, which gets in between your teeth and not a nice experience. In addition, my father used to own restaurants in P.R. and he always said to have a good rice, not too wet or too dry, just makes a better companion to a good dish... In this case they were perfect companions because they were both "dry". The "anticuchos" are made only for those with good teeth because very chewy.
In conclusion, if you like overpriced flat soda then this is for you. And the funny part is that the name of the restaurant starts with "Aji" and they don't have aji in the place! My wife is a gringa and I have treated her El Patio in Fort Myers and in comparison she says Aji is a 2 and Patio a 5; she didn't like the taste of your chicken chaufa, but the papa a la Huancaina was good. I give a 3 to Aji and 5 to Patio because again, nice service here but this may have been an isolated incident and my food was from last week's pot... Unfortunately, the food is of poor quality for the high price. Word of advice: Go to Lima and get a good recipe for good Aji and start making it. Wanna taste good Aji near by? Eat at El Patio in Fort Myers (Not Cape Coral because their Aji sucks) and work on your rice. Take pride in your...
Read moreOK first time here. I've been wanting to go to this place for a few years now just never made it. First impressions, the restaurant is very quaint and cozy and the staff are friendly enough...but our waitress didn't ask us if we wanted to start with some drinks or apps, kinda just seated us and that was it. We called her over finally and just decided we would order everything all at once (apps, drinks and mains). As this was our first visit I love asking the waitstaff what is popular or their specialty. Didn't really get much from the waitress, not even telling us about their happy hour (2 for 1 drinks and apps)! Anyhow, we order and wait. Food come in a reasonable amount of time...but she forgot 1 dish! Ugh we finished everything else and waited for a bit as I kept telling our table that the last dish (paella) was just taking long make. Finally we asked our waitress and she didn't even order it! Ugh, disappointed in the service levels. Waitress didn't even come by to ask us how everything was or if we needed more drinks. Anyhow, after that I just wanted to leave, I felt a bit bad that I brought along several friends to try this place out with me. In the end I will probably return (because the food is tasty and authentic) but to a different locations (they have 2 where I was near). I also definitely recommend this place to those looking for some good Peruvian food, just not this particular...
