El Mezcal Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

This was not a good experience tonight because of the server. He forgot drink refills. He made drink refills, set them on the bar, and forgot to serve them. We waited over an hour after ordering and still did not have food. He finally stopped for a split second to tell us our order was coming soon. At that point, I told him we had ordered over an hour earlier, and a gentleman who arrived after we ordered had already enjoyed his dinner. I asked him to just go ahead and make it to go. A runner delivered the food but no check. The server brought the check fifteen minutes later, made no apology, and showed me a 15% discount on the ticket. I asked to speak to a manager. He came and ended up taking care of the ticket. We will return and give them another chance because of the manager's attitude. He made the apology, handled it professionally, and saved me from saying I would never return. It is not that mistakes are never made. It is how you handle them. Had the server checked on us a couple of more times and apologized for our wait, I would have gladly accepted the 15% discount and returned. Food wasn't as good as it normally was. Server was going to charge for an extra cheese dip, when my daughter asked to make sure they poured cheese over her chicken, cheese, and rice. And watch your bill if you're not paying with a debit/credit card. My check had a 92 cent additional charge prior to me even going to pay, for "debit/credit" method of payment. Felt like that is a shady way to make an extra buck off of customers. Especially since it's added to the bill before you even pay.

In response to the El Sol reply - why is it I don't see those additional debit card charges on any other restaurant receipt? Wouldn't it be easier to just add 2.5% to your food prices? And then offer a cash discount? I know it's a circular thing; but I feel it would look a lot...

I feel that El Sol has the best Mexican food in Cape Girardeau, but because of the terrible acoustics in the building, it is very difficult for me to have good conversation and it actually makes my head hurt after being there for an hour. For this reason I had been patronizing a different Mexican restaurant. After being away for quite some time I visited El Sol again this week and as soon as I sat down at my table I remembered how bad the uncomfortable noise level is to me.
