El Torero Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Cape Girardeau

First of all, I want to share this was my 3rd time visiting while out of town. My first 2 visits were great, no complaints. This last visit is another story. I ordered a number 13 with chicken off the lunch menu with a side of fries. She repeted a number 10 back to me, and I advised no a number 13 with chicken and a side of fries. I had 2 other people with me who also ordered off the lunch menu. Our waitress who was hanging out with another employee at the front didn't notice us to sit us for at least 5 minutes. When our food was brought out, I had a plate laid in front of me that was far from what I ordered. She knew instantly after setting it down and took it back. While she was letting the cook know what I had ordered, they were laughing. I'm sorry, is this a joke??? So when she brought out what was supposed to be my order which was chicken on a bed of rice with cheese sauce and a side of French fries, I got a plate of French fries with chicken on top and then covered in cheese sauce. Ugh!!! So, I politely asked for the rice to be brought out. Let me clear something up for everyone. I've opened restaurants, bartended, and served. And after working in the back and food messing up, you run the chance of things in your food you didn't order. Hence, you never send food back. Needless to say, I didn't like the soggy French fries, and nothing ended up the way it should have. I asked for a Togo box , chips, and salsa. I got a Togo box and then had to chase down my waitress again after waiting 10 minutes for the chips and salsa. which she must have forgotten and was hanging out and eating lunch with friends.... I don't know if they were short staffed, understaffed, or the girl just didn't care. But, this experience was awful. My food was thrown away eventually, unfortunate. I just think had she actually wrote it down, this mistake may have been avoided. Honestly, this probably will be the last...

Casual; comfortable place that I've been going to all my life. The first time, my 10th birthday. I chose the place, because of the beautifully crafted glasswork, of the inside; and outside windows. But, my family and myself, liked it so much that we frequented it for years; afterwards! Still, ONE of the best Mexican restaurants in the area, and I LIKE the staff a lot. They're familiar, personable, professional, and friendly! The prices weren't bad, but was more than I had expected! This was my "birthday" lunch, and I although I tried to pay, even just a portion; my sister paid the bill! It was just 4 of us, plus my baby nephew. And I expected a little bit of a BILL, but I ordered margarita refills, in a normal size; and was given only "jumbos" like my first one! I planned to pay the bill myself, but my sister insisted, and my mother insisted on the tip left! I kind of felt like 2 of the 3 margaritas I had, should had been half the price, since they're what I requested; in the first place. BUT, it was a good meal! Too much, honestly! This was a quick but great experience. After working out of state we walked in with no reservations and was greeted upon entering the restaurant . The staff was extremely nice and informative about the menu and even to the burrito I was looking for was not in the menu to my surprise the waitress went to see what she could do and maybe 1 minute at the most returned with the owner who after I explained what it was I was looking for he said no problem asked what we would like to drink and 10 minutes later returned with exactly what I hoping for. A labamba style burrito as big as your head. It was amazingly simple to for an a business to provide top notch service and I can’t say enough about the food it was great. 2 Large drinks and 2 of the huge burritos only $21 and 10 minutes of our time and out the door on our way we went. Great service for out of town customers I would bet ride establishment has return customers all the time. I know I will be back. Thank you to the staff .
