WOW! My husband and I had the BEST experience here last Saturday morning. We had heard of this place from a friend, and have driven by it countless times, but finally decided to stop in here and can now say that it's my favorite breakfast place, possibly even my favorite eatery in town! As most people who live here know, Santa Cruz is strangely devoid of good restaurants, even with the high population of people and proximity to SF. But I'm starting to think that the one food strength this town has is breakfast. Our default breakfast place is Linda's Seabreeze Cafe, which is also amazing and their cinnamon rolls are unmatched, but Silver Spur won me over with their service, the space inside, and the quality of food. Obviously Saturday mornings are one of their busiest times, but I felt absolutely seen by the servers even with them rushing around. I want to give a huge shoutout to the young man with blonde hair who saw that there was no pen by the front check-in area to put our names down, and came over with a smile and great eye contact to give me a pen. He also even checked in later to ask my name and to make sure that we were seated. We watched him bustle around and found it so refreshing and were really impressed with his work ethic and attitude! Our server was also incredibly prompt and attentive and I loved how everyone worked together cohesively to make sure tables were cleared and everyone was taken care of. And then, of course, the food! Hubbie ordered the chicken fried steak, which, I tend to avoid because I usually relate it to cheap, low-quality diners that serve terrible meat that's chewy and unpalatable. But wow, this was not like that at all and was tender and had great flavor. I had the french toast combo (which I also appreciate when places offer a dish that has both sweet and savory) and it was delicious! Light and fluffy toast that hit the spot.
Thank you for starting our day off incredibly and hats off to the servers and chefs! It feels so good when I can generously tip with no regrets or...
Read moreI'm subtracting one full star only because of 2 issues I had while dining despite the food being excellent and the staff being great. I ordered a full stack of pancakes with 2 eggs and 2 sausage. They call this a "combo" on the menu but the full stack is listed at $12 and the combo $16 which is fair. The issue comes in that it's deceptive on the menu that once you order the combo you get 2 pancakes only and they sell you a 3rd pancake for $3 separately on the bill. The pancakes are so big (which I didn't know) so I was effectively overcharged for something I didn't know I didn't need. This brought my total bill to $21 with tax and tip brought it to $25. That's a lot for a basic breakfast. I'm not going to get into an argument about inflation etc. this is just a poor menu layout that causes this to not be conveyed to the customer. The 2nd issue was that I ordered sausage links that had a bad freezer flavor left over. This was weird to me considering quality issues aren't typically a concern here. I asked for chicken apple sausage as a replacement and they were much larger and delicious and fresh. When I asked the staff why they were serving small, not good tasting sausage when they have big good tasting sausage and what the price difference was they A. Couldn't tell me what the price difference was or whether they were frozen or refrigerated and B. That other customers did indeed complain about the same bad taste. My question to the owners/management is why would you continue to serve that item in light of this? I wasn't upset but I felt like they were trying to get rid of crappy sausage and again ripping me off as the customer. In their defense they made it right at no additional charge but why did it even come to that? Please don't serve cheap small links at your diner just as a baseline approach. Despite that experience the pancakes were amazing but in the future I will be more frugal with my ordering because of the...
Read moreWe just relocated back to Santa Cruz over the weekend and wanted to try out a Breakfast place that we haven’t tried yet to celebrate. We were expecting your average diner food but was pleasantly surprised. The Portions are massive but what really impressed me was the food quality. I have what feels like a million breakfast burritos but this is by far the best one I have ever had. Even the hot chocolate was set to a temperature where you could drink it right away without burning yourself and the Cinnamon French Toast had the right balance of spices to have the cinnamon but not have it be overpowering. I would certainly say this is the top 3 best breakfast diners that I have tried so far in the United States. The staff is also wonderful and the establishment is smaller but quaint in a good way. 1000/10 would recommend to everyone. They even have Vegetarian and...
