La Costa Wine — Restaurant in Carlsbad

My normal practice is to only leave positive Yelp reviews or say nothing. However, the experience yesterday at La Costa Wine Co was so negative that I think other customers should know what they may be in for. From the blase “Can I help you?” as we walked in, to the continued sarcastic and sardonic attitude from the same woman, I started to wonder if we weren’t welcome at all. Please know that the pours are stingy (well, we didn’t have much wine anyway, because after I had to wave them down once, they never came back to our table), the service is lackluster, unconcerned, unwelcoming, non-existent...none of the charm and interest from staff that I’ve experienced at every wine bar I’ve been to in the US and abroad is to be seen, and it seems you have to be a “regular” to be welcomed. The regulars who came in about 30 minutes after us were given undivided attention by the staff while we were seemingly intentionally ignored. I could go on and on but I’ll leave it at this: I’m normally a 20 to 25% tipper, but, I left 2 bucks on the table--and upon reflection, I feel stupid...

Very dissapointed on the deceptive advertising of their wine selection, availability and prices posted online compared when you show up in-store for purchase. They try and get individuals to come to the store, but then say "Oh, it just got sold!". But even if you wait a few days or weeks, they never seem to update their on-line store stock (even after 1 week it says "9 in stock" and lets you being the checkout process - so it seems more of a marketing gimmick or bait-and-switch to get people to come to the store. Made me waste 1.5 hours of driving which was frustrating.

You know every time I go there I always find myself having a great time. Very relaxed staff will leave you alone or chat with you or even get in-depth listening or sharing the topic of the evening.

Good value for the wine if you purchase it or if you can enjoy your wine flights and appetizer follow the crowd.

PS. My little dog was welcomed with open arms and minded his manners with other patrons. All the while, I enjoyed a few glasses of wine and a appetizer combined with some good bartender (sovaier) ...
