Went to Monterey this weekend stopped in carmel for some relaxing sightseeing. The people are very friendly you talk to someone and they actually respond. Friendly relaxed people. So I asked someone for directions to the swiss cafe. But some nice people from Texas said no you should go to Katys place. The foods so good there. Apparently the king of Jordan went there for breakfast. Well we took there advice. The place is quaint on the outside But that's where the fun stops. It's a hole in the wall dirty carpet on the floor. I had the Belgian waffle with scrambled eggs and bacon. They brought Sunnyside up egg and powdered sugar on my waffle even though it clearly states sugar and cinnamon only on request. The lady takes the plate brings back the same waffle with the sugar and a cold scrambled eggs. My husband's and my plates where 25.00 each . It took a long time to get service they weren't busy we sat down right away but no came over to even offer drinks for awhile. When the waitress did take our order Our food came fast that's probably why it was barely warm. So sixty dallars later . We were just laughing about it . the food was not worth it. You can't even compar it to Denys There foods not great but at least its fresh and hot . I tried to use the restroom before leaving but it was filthy and there's an open window that looks into the house behind the restaurant. I don't think the king of Jordan ate here. Maybe they meant Jordan King a friend of there's with no taste buds. If this place was ever great it's past it prime . they need to really clean this place hire friendly wait staff and a new cook. Do not believe the hype. They should not be allowed to continue serving food. And they...
Read moreI am not a food critic or picky eater. But this place definitely left me speechless. First of all, I think it is important that you let customers know that it is a cash-only right away. Put some kinda sign out. Tell people at the entrance and not when they sit down. Waiters came 3 times to get our order each with 1 min interval. It was our first time there and obviously, we needed time to review menus. The waitress who ended up helping us was so unnecessarily rude. My friend asked for a paper napkin and was telling me that a lot of restaurants usually give you a piece of cloth instead of napkins and she prefers them over the cloth ones. Perhaps the waitress overheard part of the conversation and made her assumptions and very rudely gave us our napkins saying that she did not have them to us earlier cause we were contemplating leaving earlier. After all, we did not expect the place to be cash only. She was showing her attitude so badly that it ruined our day, to be honest. We were ready to walk out right there but decided to stay as it wouldn't be right to leave after placing the order. I think that the server needs an attitude adjustment or a new job. This is not working for her. I did not catch her name but she had her hair in a ponytail, with a little accent. The food was all right. Those potato pancakes can be improved. I would recommend the chef to find a Russian potato pancake recipe. If you are paying $26 for a plate it at least should taste decent. The service needs some work as well as the interior that requires an update. Needless to say, I am sure it would have been a good experience but she made it unbearable for no reason. For that reason, I unfortunately do not...
Read moreHm, Katy's. You disappointed me.
I was SUPER excited for visiting Carmel (it was my second time ever in the area) and my hubby and I were working on trying to plan a fun day around great food spots. Katy's stuck out to me when I was checking out places on Yelp since they had a super cute main photo of a corgi sitting at a table. We were bringing out dogs with us for the day so going to a dog-friendly place was important.
So, we arrived, and I stood at the front desk area for probably 3 solid minutes while the host was doing a crossword puzzle (or something) without even looking up for a second. A waiter literally had to tap him on the shoulder for him to look up at me and in a very disgruntled tone ask me what I wanted.
I told him it was 2 of us + two dogs and he looked very displeased with me. He said we would have to carry the dogs to the back patio (which is fine), but it was just a very unpleasant experience.
Once we were seated the experience was a little better - the waitress was very nice and the people outside were also super excited to see our dogs. Carmel is a dog-friendly place after all contrary to what the host seemed to feel..
I ordered the Crab benedict and my hubby got the wheatgerm pancakes. The benedict was solid - could have used something like avocado slices to add another flavor profile, but I definitely enjoyed it. The pancakes were inedible. Probably some of the grossest things I have ever had the displeasure of tasting.
They are cash only, which is also okay, but a little odd considering their hiked up prices.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this spot - there were plenty of other cute/better places to try...
