Picked this place out before we even left for our trip; had to get my honey his seafood fix. Stephen had a dozen oysters on the half shell and he enjoyed them.. (Not in my texture wheel so I didn't taste haha). He also got some crab legs, which employee Mara was so kind to crack in entirety. Y'all. She found meat in places he would've never looked 🤣 and she did all the work for him which definitely made his birthday dinner better. I ordered the GREGGAH (lobster roll) and it was so fresh, perfectly buttered roll and idk what sauce they used but it should go on everything. We also had the cold crab dip appetizer and I no longer see the hype for a hot one. Definitely check this place out. Ps- sorry for the poorly lit photos, we sat outside right under the neon sign.

I read this place has the best seafood in town so I really wanted to go. Since I read it's busy and some of the reviews reference long waits and busy staff, we went for lunch and got there a little early, about 11:15 or 11:30. We timed it right - it was nearly empty when we got there and packed with a line when we left. The staff was friendly, quick, and patient with our daughters. The food was delicious! I had steamed crab, mussels, and shrimp and it was heavenly. My family doesn't love seafood as much as I do so they got corn dog bites, chicken fingers (kids), and a lobster roll. All great. I highly recommend this place, but I also recommend you try going early for lunch.

To start .... our phenomenal waitress, Jessica. The service was great!! Jessica's recommendations were spot on. Food: mildly disappointed. Servings were small for the price. Fries, slaw and fried cauliflower were the tops. Lobster roll was good, but nothing to write home about. Crab (snow crab) dinner was disappointing with the corn 🌽 as the highlight. Oysters ... the James River oysters were fresh, but bland, the Caroline Beach Salties are the way to go with a nice bring taste ... decent cocktail sauce, but no crackers. Oh, did we mention the service (Jessica) was superb. We'll stop by here again in the Fall to try again.

We tried to eat in the restaurant on Tuesday of our trip but they couldn't accommodate us....large party, small place so we totally understood. However, it is one of the ONLY places on Pleasure Island that advertises that they serve raw oysters. We decided to place a to-go order on Wednesday. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. When my husband went in to pick up the order, none of the staff would acknowledge him. He tried to get their attention but they refused to make eye contact. After 20 minutes passed (40 minutes after placing the order), I had to call the restaurant and tell them he was in there waiting to pick up our order and could someone please assist him. I was given attitude by the woman on the phone, who I understand may be the head bartender. She implied the lack of service was my husband's fault and all he needed to do was ask for the order because it had been ready for a while. When he finally spoke to someone 15 minutes later (almost an hour after our order was placed), they gave him attitude. He was furious and was going to just cancel the order and walk out. They did offer a discount. We left over an hour after the initial phone call with our order. Once we arrived at our vacation home, the food was actually really good. I'd skip the corn on the cob which appeared to be frozen then boiled into oblivion. Everything else was great... the oysters, shrimp and hush puppies were exactly what we wanted. So, if you don't mind your food with a side of "screw you", then I'd recommend this place. Otherwise, take the ferry to Southport and find another option. Drive back to Wilmington. Or walk around the corner and...

TOURISTS BEWARE Extremely disappointing experience and I could not more emphatically dissuade others from visiting this establishment. My girlfriend and I came in on a summer night and had little to no attention from the staff and felt as if our business and time were not welcome. We understand how a busy night can cause delays and mishaps, however, after being seated at the bar, we waited 45 min for our appetizer (which left a lot to be desired), received little to no communication or attention from the staff, and finally after waiting another 45 min for a second drink and our single shared entree, decided we should no longer waste our time. I attempted to speak to the staff to gain some sort of understanding about the long wait, but was brushed off and coldly told this was normal and it was my fault for coming at a busy time. I was surprised by this response, and I expressed our disappointment with the service only to be walked away from, have other staff talk bad about me to other patrons right in front of my face, and otherwise further ignored. In my experience, delays occur but guests are respected - and even perhaps asked if there’s anything that can be done to accommodate them as they wait. However, at the Shuckin’ Shack they apparently prefer to ignore and belittle you as you’re stuck waiting hours for...

Restaurant with minimal seating, especially if you're dining with kids. Waitress seemed to keep forgetting about us sitting outside when it was nearly 100°. I felt like my food was just ok (low country boil), but the rest of the family seemed to really enjoy what they got. If we are ever in this area in the future, I'd try it again. Would've probably really enjoyed it more if it weren't so dang hot. We'll be back someday.

Response Edited To Owners Reply: I apologize if you feel I was reviewing the weather, as that was not my intention. Instead, the review was to give other patrons with families, like myself, the opportunity to know that due to the limited seating inside, we needed to be sat outside & unfortunately that made for an unpleasant dining experience. I am not suggesting there was anything the restaurant could DO about this. Rather, simply suggesting to others that if they are traveling with a family and are looking for someplace to dine indoors, someplace with more ample indoor seating might be suggested on a hot day. Google reviews are not, in my opinion, a place for criticism, but rather to give feedback to others who may be considering dining at any given location. I appreciate your response and your service, I apologize that I did not have a more pleasant...
