For halal eaters: only the lamb is halal. Typical Arab run restaurant. They're passing off this food to non Arabs who think it's good. It's not. I wanted them to be good, this place was literally recommended to me by a local Muslim at a mosque whom I asked where there is any halal food. If a business only has partial halal I always skip it, but since this is Puerto Rico I had to try it (read the end of the review for why). Lamb kebabs were dry, falafel was tasteless, the garlic sauce was RANCID, literally I asked my wife what's wrong with this and she said the garlic had gone rancid in the sauce so they're using old ingredients or they are making the sauce and literally holding onto it until they use it all. The bread was fine but they probably bought it from a store. The salad was fine but that's not saying much at all. The hummus was tasteless. Surprisingly, the baba ganoush wasn't terrible. If the hummus was 2/10 the baba ganoush shockingly 4/10, which is the most surprising thing because it is difficult to make and typically is my way of figuring out if a restaurant is doing anything right. It's so hard to make good that if a restaurant does it, it's almost a guarantee that everything else is good. If I had tried just the baba ganoush, I would have said, it's not the worst thing, I'll try the other stuff. Except all of the other stuff was just tasteless, dry, old, rancid, overall not worth it. I gave them $75 and I regret it. I had a better experience just ordering vegetarian pizzas and pastas from random restaurants rather than go out of my way for this. This is what makes me sad about Muslim businesses. I'm on vacation and decide to try something halal and not only is it disappointing it's just disgusting. Next time I'll stick to restaurants that only serve all halal meat. However I will say since it's Puerto Rico, it's nearly impossible to get halal meat outside of lamb. There are ZERO halal meat stores, and the Muslims that live here either slaughter their own animals or don't eat halal. Just word to the wise for...
Read moreHorrible place! I have severe allergies that can sometimes be hard to avoid, but I usually have no problem. We informed the waitress that I was allergic to onions and asked if there were onions in the soup. She said no and brought it out and we found onions in it (I always check before I eat) and we told her. She did not seem to care at all. When she brought out the main dish we discovered noodles in the rice (I have a gluten allergy and we told her I could not eat wheat) at this point when I asked the other ingredients in the rest of the dish she had no idea if they had gluten or not. I had told her I had an allergy and she did not check before requesting the order. I told her I had changed my mind and I did not want to eat the fish because I did not want to risk getting horribly sick or going to the hospital. At this point she went to the kitchen and the cook came out. She immediately started insulting me and telling me that it's my duty to ask to speak with her instead of the waitress if I have allergies (most restaurants the waitress or waiter will go get the chef to talk to me if they do not feel comfortable relaying my allergies to the chef) I have never had to request the chef myself. She then proceeded to tell me that every item in the dish had gluten in it so I could not eat it but I was to be charged anyway. When I told her that I had told the waitress of my allergies she said "you should know that you can not eat out, you have to only eat at home with your allergies." In an extremely rude tone. I told her that I eat out all the time and have never had this problem. She continued to talk down to me and my family to the point where we just wanted to pay and leave because she was being so incredibly insulting. They still charged us for the dish even though it was their fault. Please do not go here if you have any allergies, they will probably kill you and they will tell you it's your own fault. Worst dining experience I have ever had. The table cloths were...
Read moreHaving ordered this kind of food in the past in many different places across the world, I know this type of cuisine characterizes itself for being generous with its portions and for using fresh, tasty ingredients. After paying almost 20 bucks (prior to fees and delivery charges) for my Kharuf Salad, I was expecting it to be really good, and a big portion, as this is well over the price I tend to pay for dishes like this. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out…
Instead I received an infant-sized handful of what could be considered deli-style (almost like the roast beef you get at Costco), overcooked and stuck together lamb in a ball of tinfoil.
The salad was a mess: cucumber still had hard seeds and the tomatoes were mushy. The lettuce was probably freshly cut. Three days ago. The sauce was nice. Shame it was all watered down by all the water the salad itself had.
For 20 dollars I would have expected something fresher and higher quality. A real disappointment.
I won’t be ordering from here again, and I recommend you...
