Playa Papaya — Restaurant in Carolina

OMG! The service at this place was THEE WORST!!!

When we walked in, a group of 3 we're just getting up from where we decided to sit, which was right next to the entrance. We we're greeted by one of the young girls working there and given our menus, during this time a couple of women walked in and sat across from us. About 5 minutes later a group of three sat right next to us. The same girl who seated us took the order of the two women who sat across from us. Then the people next to us... 10 minutes pass and the two women sitting across from us had been served. By now my wife is getting annoyed... Finally, another young girl who seemed to be the only one that had enough sense of what was going on, approaches us and took our order. I asked for a cafe con leche and my wife ordered tea. The waitress told my wife she can choose her tea from an assortment basket and after taking our complete order she gave us the menus and brought my coffee. Minutes later the waitress who took our order dropped off a three tier basket with various teas all mixed in together. Needless to say it was overwhelming to sift through three tiers of unorganized tea types.

5 more minutes go by and the waitress never returned, if anything it seemed like she was picking up the slack for all the other waitresses. The coffee I was served was disgusting. It had to of been one part weak American coffee and one part cold milk; my coffee wasn't hot. I took one sip and put it to the side so I could ask for something else. I can't understand how I was served a cold, weak tasting cup of coffee in Puerto Rico???

By now another family walks in with a child. They are seated and we still have had no interaction or acknowledgement from any staff, other than brief eye contact that was made by my wife and a gentlemen who appeared to be the owner or manager of the place. My wife's facial expression clearly showed that she was annoyed, but as quick as their eyes met was as quick as he looked away and continued doing what he was doing.

The factor that made us get up and walk out after being in this establishment for 30 minutes with nearly no service was that the child with the last family that walked in was already eating and we STILL hadn't received water for my wife's tea. I swear I thought that we were invisible...

So there you have it. Owner, if your reading this, you need to get it together. Your menu is great but your service...

I was excited to eat at this place since it was under construction for a bit. I am a LOCAL from PR and can say the SERVICE is very much biased towards tourists. When we walked in no one came in to greet us and ask how many people were to be seated or told us the wait time. I had to go to the cashier and ask what the wait time was and they told me to pick a table. The only table available had the table cloth was all worn out and broken. Once we started ordering the girl was texting on her phone, I though that’s where she was taking the order but when my friend took time to read the menu she kept looking down at her phone texting. I ordered a juice and told her if she could bring it out with the food. When she left she quickly came with the drink I wanted WITH the food. I orders the Avocado BAGEL Toast and my friend ordered the CROISSANT sandwich. When the plates came out we noticed that there was no bagel and no croissant severed. It was just mallorca bread. I like mallorca but if they didn’t have the bagel or croissant available it would have been nice to know ahead of time. My order was supposed to come with bacon. I had a hard time getting a server to come and ask for the bacon, a man came up to us from the bar and asked what we needed. I asked if they had bagel or bacon since my order CAME with it and he left. One sever came out with the bacon in a plate and she put it down and walked away right before I could say thank you. She didn’t even look at us or say sorry for the missing items, just placed and left immediately. I then noticed that the people around us, tourists, were being constantly served and cared for. As a local this felt like a complete disrespect to the people who can become regular customers. Servers were just hanging around as the place was empty instead of checking on the customers. No tip from me today and never coming back again as I was truly disappointed in the service from them. Not worth the $34...

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I wish there was a zero stars. So let me just start by saying we hated this place from the moment we walked in to the moment we left! We ordered pretty simple dishes and we waited over 30 mins for our food, they brought my coffee but didn’t bring any waters or drinks for us while we waited for our food. The waiter served me my scrambled eggs and fried ham and didn’t serve my boyfriend his food so I’m like eating before he is? Weird. Then we saw another table who arrived before us get their entire meal & drinks before us. So I went inside (everyone ignored me) and then I asked what’s going on with our food and if we could just be charged for the eggs and ham because we waited so long that we were going to be late for our scheduled excursion and so he’s like “I have your food ready right now” okay cool. It was the waffles I ordered. Cold. Like they were already sitting there and he didn’t have my boyfriends food ready at all. Then I said can we just be charged for the eggs, ham, & coffee and the waiter rudely responds “well what am I supposed to do with this?” UM SIR YOU SERVED ME COLD FOOD AFTER WAITING 30+ mins MY WAFFLES WERE SITTING BACK THERE ALREADY BECAUSE YOU IMMEDIATELY FOUND MY WAFFLES WHEN I WENT INSIDE TO ASK YOU. I asked him if we could just wrap this up because we were going to be late to get to our excursion. He rudely comes back out and says he took something off our tab and that he wasn’t supposed to do that. Well we weren’t supposed to wait a long time for our food and receive horrible customer service.... DO NOT GO...
