We recently had dinner at Delgado's, part of a longstanding family tradition because it's always been great food, good service, and an enjoyable spot. This time was very different- the table was sticky and dirty when we were seated, and when we asked if it could be cleaned, the waitress said "I'm sorry it's not clean to YOUR standards, but we can clean it." She cleaned the table, but later when I picked up a napkin half of it tore off and stayed adhered to the table because of how sticky it was, and I had to peel the menu off the table. One party member ordered the steak fajitas and got 4 tiny pieces of steak (all the size of a shrimp) and no tortillas, one member never got their sides after asking twice, and we never got half of the drinks the table ordered (although we didn't get charged for them either, to be fair). At the end of the meal, we were told they'd prefer we pay cash because the machines were down-not a huge deal, but fortunately we happened to have money in larger bills. After 30 minutes we'd never received change on $150 for a $78 tab because, and I quote: "we didn't count the change." Two of us had to go and ask the waitress separately for change twice before she brought it to us angrily. While the food is OK (when it has all the ingredients), the service, disrespect, and other issues were abysmal and not what I've experienced or loved about Delgado's...

I've eaten here dozens of time over the years as a 45-year local, and tonight was the worst service I've ever had. The server took 15 minutes to come to our table. We had no water, only chips and salsa that the bus boy brought us. Every other employee at the restaurant came to our table more times than the server did. We were only graced with her presence twice. The table next to us got up and left after they waited 20 minutes. They didn't have waters either, just chips and salsa. The food runner did a better job and should be promoted to server after you fire the current server. And the owner was there, I've been going there since I was a small kid so I know who he is. He either doesn't see how awful the service that they currently provide is, or he's severely understaffed. I've been working in the service industry for 25 years, and they need Robert Irvine to do a restaurant impossible there. The food was mid at best. One of our plates came out with no cheese on the refried beans, while the other came out with the cheese melted on top. There is no consistency and no accountability from the expo. It should have been fixed before they sent it out.

Response to owner: Yes we were there last night 9/29...

Living in carpinteria and frequenting delgados my entire life I have to say that the past year they have just really gone downhill. Service, food, atmosphere etc. It’s really disappointing with how popular they are and how much we’ve enjoyed going there in the past. It’s an often occurrence now that when we dine with them there is ALWAYS something missing, wrong, incorrect or just does not run smoothly. Tonight, we had to ask multiple times to have our chips refilled, our drinks brought to the table, condiments, etc. it’s frustrating when you’re expected to pay and tip and have a service provided to you only to constantly feel like you’re a burden on the wait staff. As we waited a good 20 minutes just for our drinks we noticed that the walls and ceilings had massive amounts of webs, dirt and overall debris that has not been cleaned and just hanging over many of the tables. Some of our food arrived cold and had to be sent back and one of our plates came so much later that one of our guests was rushing to eat. I continue to give them chances over and over thinking it will be better but I think tonight was the last straw for us for a while. Please do...

First impression: cosy, and inviting. Walked in and the staff got us to our spot and immediately whipped out some chips and salsa, the menu has a numerous amount of things to check out, all of them worth it, I went with a California burrito about $20.00 and worth every bit, big portion sizes, if your not a big eater or just eat a bit, it might be worth sharing, (if you don't the staff has to go boxes at the read) the meat in my burrito was cooked and seasoned perfectly as were the other things I tried. Definitely one of the top burritos I've had. The staff was extremely kind and friendly, they kept checking up on us and making sure everything was going well (as well as refills) a little bit of a wait for the food, but as it's not a fast food restaurant the time is still respectable, (the chips make the time fly) There is outside dinning as well as inside, so if you're ever in the mood, you should definitely give it a try!

First timers at this restaurant, it was recommended by our hotel and the majority of reviews appeared favorable. Decided to try it and had the Relleno Michoacano- stuffed pasilla chili with carnitas in a crème sauce. This dish did not disappoint, excellent flavor. The chips and salsa served are very fresh and good. The salsa is not spectacular but it’s good and goes well with the food. This appears to be a local favorite, a Monday night had a full house, no sad faces here, just families having great food & drinks for a fair price! Can’t beat that! Servers are busy and appear short staffed due to the amount of patrons in the place but they are friendly and very helpful. Not sure why this place had some moderate ratings since the food is very fresh and well prepared. Highly recommended.

This restaurant was the first meal of our four day stop in the area. We were tired and hungry. First off, I want to mention that the staff are fabulous. Very friendly and the conversation was fun and unhurried. The chips and salsa are tasty. However, we ordered the sopes and were very disappointed. The sopes appear to be deep fried with the consistency of a beer batter. Not the traditional sopes we were expecting. And the chicken one actually tasted like tuna! I don't know how they accomplished that. 😕 So, if you're hungry and just need to eat something, then this place is fine. I just wouldn't expect much.
