My family has been coming here for over 20 years. We've always loved how the quality is solid, prices reasonable and atmosphere stays the same. This is my experience with armadillo grill.
After living out of state for several years and recently returning for a visit, I had to come to the dillo!
I ordered curbside ahead of time for a pickup at 6:15pm. We arrived a little late and tried to call to get an estimate. No answer. So we waited. Until I got an email at 6:40pm saying our order would be ready at 6:58pm. Okay, a bit late, but understandable I guess. Seven comes and goes. We continue to call repeatedly, no answer. At 7:30 we decide to go inside and ask. Their attitude was extremely rude. No apology, no asking our name for the order or giving an estimate, just a curt "everyone is waiting. Your order will be ready when it's ready." if I'd know how this would have been I wouldn't have waited a moment longer.
Finally at 8:15 they call our name. But the order isn't even ready as they continue making our order while we hold some bags. We leave finally only to find in the car that we're missing over half our order. So we go back in. They are again rude, demand to see the receipt multiple times because they don't believe me or something? Finally they notice a bag they "forgot" to give us with the remainder of the order. But after he hands it to me he snatches it back out of my hand and when I ask why he tells me "well I already gave you part of the missing order so I'm taking the duplicate out" I kind of laugh and say well you could just give it to me after waiting over two hours and having to come back in twice because you messed up our order. He gets aggressively in my face and says "everyone is waiting" and I'm so shocked by his attitude I just leave because I'm not about to argue with someone so rude.
When we get home we find the order was still missing an item and the items we did get, were 2/3 full, the bags of chips were less than half full and we ran out with half the salsa and queso left.
After hundreds of visits and many great times, it's clear they are not the same place I remember and most definitely don't care at all about their customer service. I'm so sad about one of my favorite restaurants turning into this... But I'm not...

I can understand that the pieces were dried out and almost crumbly in texture, but the taste...how did they manage to get it to taste the way old, musty clothes smell?? Fortunately, the amount of chicken was pretty scarce as the burrito was mainly filled with rice with a teaspoon of tiny diced tomatoes, a shred or two of lettuce, two small pieces of green pepper, and a smear of refried beans on part of the tortilla wrapping.
My fellow diners were as disappointed with their meals as well. The guacamole taco was terrible, and the person who ordered two of those couldn't even finish the first one much less unwrap the second one. Large amounts of our food was left on the plates and thrown away, and none of us are picky eaters. Quite the opposite, in fact. But this food was really a total waste of money. Whoever is in charge of this restaurant chain (I believe there's another one in Raleigh) needs to do a check on quality control. Since we're not willing to take a chance that the other Armadillo Grill is as bad as this one, we will be avoiding both of these restaurants...
Read moreIt was my first time here! I am very pleased. A great afternoon quick bite stop or fun with family or a group.
When you eat with Armadillios, you are served generous portions, quality meats, and great flavor. The chicken and beef both have rich Tex-Mex flavor. Beef spices to die for.
Staff was friendly and welcoming. Nice blonde girl at the register. Great food preparation by the Hispanic females on the line. While Tex-Mex is sometimes seen as less authentic Hispanic food. I am happy to see these Latin workers at this location marrying the two styles. Authenticity comes from the people who prepare and think about our meal. I appreciate their warm smiles. I smile. ☺️🫡
A casual environment kept very tidy. Open first floor. Handicap accessable, I believe, with windows. While I did not go to the 2nd floor. My imagination runs wild thinking of possibilities for such a place. Family dinners, celebrations, company lunches.
This is the kind of place I will frequent for my gringo cravings! I love hard shell tacos. But, I love it all so much. Thanks Team Armadillo! I feel the love in Carrboro NC. Right...
