Peel Gallery + Photo Lab — Attraction in Carrboro

What a gem of an art gallery / shop / digital printing studio! This place is packed with amazing prints and art books if you are looking for some gift ideas that support artists. They also have a digital studio which I am personally very excited for since I can print high resolution prints of my digital and scanned film photography. Lastly, they have a scanner capable of scanning large format negatives--very cool. Lindsay and her staff are friendly and are doing a great job at keeping themselves and their patrons safe while inside. Hopefully soon they will be displaying their first artist in the gallery. While Peel is, in theory, a great resource for local artists, I must admit I have been disappointed in my most recent visits. In the current show, I noticed there were a couple of pieces that were not properly affixed to the wall for display. This created an unprofessional look, in my opinion, and it would have been better if those pieces had been framed. Additionally, I spoke to one of the artists while I was visiting and they mentioned that their name had been misspelled in the catalogue, and that they had been disrespected in the process of submitting their artwork for the show. I recently printed 10+ large prints for a gallery show at Lump Gallery at Peel. The prints turned out great and it was a joy to work with the folks over there. I’ve also used other photo lab services over there and have the same positive experience.

The folks there are very accommodating to artist/photographers needs. I was under a bit of a tight deadline for the prints for the show and was able to go in and print the work myself on their large format Epson, which was a huge help for what I’m doing. You can also drop off files and get them to scan and print for you.
