A small breakfast eatery whose biscuits are delicious! I heard their donuts were good but didn’t see a donut case…
Since I’ve driven by so many times, thought I’d try “Rise Carrboro”, finally. I never did because of parking but found the Carrboro Community Parking lot to the right and the Cat’s Cradle lot to the left.
As I walked up, there were plenty of outdoor tables on this comfortable summer morning. I walked inside and the line was to the door! You can use the self serve kiosk or scan the code for online ordering. I tried that and couldn’t get it to work; kiosk for me. It did take a long time to finally get to order, but with the pandemic it’s probably for the best. Placed my order then waited maybe 5 minutes for the food.
Went outside to eat. The country ham biscuit was so good. The chicken biscuit really was “righteous”! Can’t wait to try their donuts and Apple fritters. Really enjoyed this restaurant, it has a good vibe.
After I got home, I read they have Bacon Donuts!!! If I had known would have brought a couple home. 🍩
My only dings were: no receipt with your order. I didn’t order cheese on my biscuit. Or did I? I don’t know since I didn’t get a receipt! No iced tea. ((you call yourself Southern?!!)) Only coffee and bottled drinks.
All it all, it’s a good place to eat and prices...
Read moreWhy did it take me so long to try this place? GREAT and unusual biscuits and donuts, OMG, THE DONUTS! I've never had ones with this texture, it reminds me of a cross between Krispy Kreme and fried dough (is the latter even a thing in the south? Seems I only see funnel cakes here, but fried dough was a common fare food growing up in the northeast).
My only sad is that they usually done have all of their donuts in stock at a time...due to the way they do batches, they may have them all over the course of a day, but at any given time you are likely to have only like 4 of their roughly dozen flavors to choose from.
That being said, if they have it, get the creme brulee donut. Creamy custard inside, crackley caramelized sugar on the surface, yum!
If you're feeling savory, ask for the chicken and cheese biscuit, but with PIMENTO cheese instead of sliced cheese (I also skip the standard pickle because I don't like pickles on my sandwiches). I'm not a huge pimento cheese liker, but HERE, it's great. It melts all gooey AND gives a delicious extra kick of flavor to the already flavorful and delicious fried chicken breast without making it overly spicy.

Read moreI never write reviews except when I feel strongly about something. When I discovered Rise donuts, I felt like I had never tasted a true donut before. I was even induced to eat several in one sitting! The long-john maple bacon, peanut-butter and jelly, Captain Crunch--wow, I could not wait to see what they came up with next, and I am NOT really a donut person. They recently took everything that was good about the place and flushed it down the toilet: all the donut variety is gone. The maple bacon donut is stupid now: a circular donut with crumbled bacon on the top, a FAR cry from what it used to be. They also hid the donuts so you can't even see them in the front case. What an amazing disappointment. I was talking with neighbors (some of them kids) who are so crushed to see this downward shift. I guess it's back to not eating donuts ever again because I don't really have a reason to return...
