For many months this place used to be my favorite bar in all of Chapel Hill. That being said I nor my brother or multiple friends who are about to turn 21 will ever do business with them.
All of their signs say drinking beer off of the to go shelf in store is a no-no only if you are buying large bottles, 4 or six packs, so for months I bought 12oz singles off of the shelf that I proceed to drink in the store without any staff batting an eye about it. Today I do it and not only get viciously cussed out by the bartender but he refuses to let me leave until I hand over the single that had not even been completely opened and refuses to refund my $2 just to add injury to insult.
I admit that what I did was wrong, but its not my job as a customer to know what your establishment can and cannot sell (ignoring the fact that every bartender/bottle shop I asked called bullshit on your story that it is illegal for you to sell me a single 12oz can of beer to drink on premise). It was completely inappropriate and unnecessary to throw multiple F-bombs at me over an honest mistake made over your staffs faux accountability and misleading rules that YOU posted. I am willing to bury this hatchet if you will simply refund my money, but If your too conceited to do even this much then I guarantee you that this will be the most expensive $2 that...
Read moreVery confused by the branding of this spot. When they moved, they added The Boot Room brand to the storefront like their Durham location, but don’t appear to want to have anything to do with soccer. They aren’t open until noon, so you miss a lot of the games. They don’t have staff even walking in until noon, so we sat outside waiting for awhile. Maybe I’m old school but a spot opening at noon should have staff opening the place at 11:30. When we got inside the person working was asked why no soccer games were playing, and he said “I don’t know, these people need to tell me what they want to watch.” I get it, but if you’re branding yourself as a soccer bar you need to inform your staff on what games are on. If you’re going to open at noon, at the VERY least you need to have the games of the day on when folks walk in. They have a lot of work to do if they want to attract Chapel Hill soccer fans the way they do Durham soccer fans. It’s also pitch black inside? Everyone walking in to watch the soccer games was disappointed...
Read moreI’ve been a patron of the Chapel Hill Beer Study for nearly a decade, and I still love this place. It’s cozy and homey with a dash of retro video game vibes. One of my favorite parts about this bar is how relaxed it is while offering a wide variety of beers, ciders, lambics, wines, and non-alcoholic beverages. Regularly, they offer small-batch beers or niche styles that are hard to find elsewhere, and many of the beers are local to the state, presenting an excellent opportunity to sample NC’s breweries from the comfort of my own town. The bartenders are some of the most knowledgeable and kind people around—they are funny, friendly, and professional all at once. It’s also a great spot to catch some clips of your favorite 80s and 90s movies on actual VHS (like Tremors, Predator, Willow, Terminator 2 and the like), or play some throwback NES, Sega Genesis, or N64 games. This bar is also very dog friendly. We love the brews...
