Steel String Brewery - Carrboro — Restaurant in Carrboro

I've been going to Steel String for about 4 years now, some years more than most. The beers have improved tremendously over the past 4 years, I would say most of their beers are better than most large local craft breweries' at this point. The porch is awesome, perfect spot to chill and have some beers with friends while watching Carrboro life go by. The staff has always been incredibly friendly, fun to talk to them and occasionally the owners if they're in the building. It can get a little snug on the porch during busy hours, so if you are immunocompromised or strict about your COVID requirements it might not be the best spot during that time. However, during daylight hours it is generally safe to go. Also, it will be blatantly obvious from all the signs that you must wear a mask when you go in to order a beer, so if you're going to be "that guy" who wants to throw a tantrum about wearing a mask just stay home. That's my $0.02, overall...

The drinks are nice, yes, and -- it's impossible to overstate how much this place changed my life while I lived in CH/Carrboro.

I'm a musician, and met 85% of my friends here. It's SUCH a lovely and welcoming place. Especially for creatives.

Matt's open mic is super special. It's the only one like it that I've ever experienced. I've moved away, but don't know that I'll find another one like it.

The comedy nights are also top notch. Josh and Rosie run it, and they're great.

They have a lot of other events as well, but I personally stuck to mostly music and comedy.

I really don't see how you could regret...

Typically this place has really good service and atmosphere. It is in a great location right in the heart of Carrboro, but their beer selection is usually limited and heavy on very Hoppy IPAs.

I have had some fantastic beers there, and I have also ordered beers that I would not drink if you paid me. My suggestion is if you have not tried one of their beers to ask the bartender for a little sample even if you think you will like it. They are very happy to accommodate this request.
