Some old friends took us here for dinner. Located in downtown Carrboro, the place was centrally located and was easy to get in and out. Some parking in front but plenty of parking on the street and closeby. When you walk in, they have a nice wine and cheese market. High quality wine and cheeses to choose from. They have a nice bar in addition to the tables to be seated at. We were seated very quickly. Very shortly, we were served water and fresh baked bread. The waitress came by shortly to take our drink and meal orders. Unfortunately she forgot to enter the appetizer onto our order. When she brought our orders, someone reminded her of the missing appetizer. However, within a couple of minutes, she brought it to the table and comped it. I had the shortrib with polenta which was delicious. My friend had the filet hangar steak with mashed potatoes. It was good and was cooked perfectly. Another friend had the sea bass which was very good. My friend and I asked to split the orange sorbet but the chef came out to personally apologize he couldn't serve it because it was not up to his standards. Increase he brought us blueberry toffee ice cream. It was delicious. My friends ordered the dark chocolate salted caramel bundino to share and it was delicious also. Bottom line, everything was great and we had a wonderful dinner. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm back in the area (flew in from Palm Springs CA). Highly...
Read moreGlasshalfull is a sort of quirky restaurant that you probably wouldn't stumble onto unless someone pointed it out to you. I'm most familiar with it as a lunch venue. At lunch, the number of patrons is usually fairly sparse, making it a nice place for a lunch meeting when you don't want to feel rushed. The wait staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is relatively limited, which is the reason for four rather than five stars. And the offerings are typically somewhat out of the ordinary, like a savory bread pudding with leeks and mushrooms. But if you warm to the ingredients in a particular dish, you'll probably enjoy it. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation is uniformly high in my experience.
For reasons I don't fully understand, the clientele at lunch are predominantly an older crowd -- like Medicare older. I've seen a number of prominent locals there at lunch, including former faculty and senior administrators (past and present) from UNC. I think they like the fact that it's off the beaten path, doesn't cater primarily to students, and lunch can be as unhurried as one likes. There are also younger people who eat there, of course, but if you're looking for the ultimate college town experience, this may not be the best choice. On the other hand, if you want some interesting food that is well prepared (the mini lobster rolls are a favorite of mine), this place is definitely worth...
Read moreThis is my go to date spot, whether I'm dating myself or taking my partner out when he visits. The first time I came with my man, who is a vegetarian with high taste, we ordered the coca, French fries, kale and artichoke dip (seasonal), brussel sprouts, and cheese board. I got the tamarind and spicy margaritas; Man ordered a beer and a wine. He loved the dip so much he ordered another. I recently came back for some apps before meeting a friend and ended up choosing the charcuterie ($13 is the best price for charcuterie in the triangle) and blueberry gazpacho. The charcuterie plate, served with endless crostini was my favorite. I could've munched on that all day. The blueberry gazpacho was weird, yet refreshing. It was kind of like a savory smoothie, which took a while for my taste buds to agree with. I wasnt upset about it but I probably wouldn't order it again. I capped off my evening with an esspresso and their poached pear and cherry crumble with coconut ice cream. Very very tasty dessert combo. I do love how GHF is so good at making things vegan. I am quick to recommend this place because there are so many options for anyone and everyone. Price is great too. The first time my bf and I spent $100 for 4 drinks and 6 vegetarian dishes. This second time I spent $40 for two apps, dessert and espresso. So not an everyday place buy definitely manageable for special events...
