Jade Palace Restaurant — Restaurant in Carrboro

I haven’t been to Jade Palace in numerous years but thought I’d give it a try yesterday. I called because it looked like there was a surcharge on ordering online (not much but I figured why not just call) and since reviews said they were not delivering any longer I figured I’d call. The person who answers the phone was nice, took my order and let me know I’d pay when I arrived and it would take about 10 minutes. I parked in the Bank of America parking lot, which was super convenient. I walked in and was greeted immediately with a smiling face behind a folding table w bags of takeout- in front of me. To the right was the counter to place an order (I had wondered if they were still doing that when I made my order). Checkout was seamless. There were quite a few people in the area but it was organized. (I did find it funny that in the back of the restaurant where the tables are set up someone was eating Chick-FIL-A with their back to customers, I could see the bag). I paid and took my bag, was suggested I pick up any condiments I needed. I took my bag and could tell it was hot. I got home and sat down to eat. I ordered General Tso chicken. It was basically fried chicken pieces w a General Tao’s sauce poured over it. If the sauce wasn’t thick on the chicken there was hardly any flavor to the chicken. Everything was cooked and hot but not very flavorful as General Tao’s usually is. The tanginess and umami just wasn’t there. All in all, I’ll try them again but I won’t get...

If I could give 0 starts I would. Ordered food at 7:30 for delivery. They close at 930, and I am 3.6 miles away. They deliver to 4.5. I called my order in and the man informed me if I wanted a delivery to my location I would have to meet a minimum. Totally understandable so I met almost double the minimum. He said an hour delivery then hung up per usual. I got a call at 830 from a delivery driver who has been “banging on my door for a while because the gate was locked” and was very angry. I checked and he wasn’t outside (I would have heard the knocking) so I told him, then told him my address. He said “you put down the wrong number”, to which I replied, “no I didn’t I said my address correctly”. I called my order in. He then hung up on me. I was hoping he’d still deliver my food so I thought to walk down the sidewalk and meet him. He raced into the parking lot, stomped towards me, briskly gave me my copy to sign, did not return my hello, then gave me my food and stomped off towards his car like a toddler. Ordered delivery from Jade Palace tonight after just moving to the area. I expected some typical Chinese food where the chicken doesn't necessarily taste like chicken, the fried rice is some strange form of yellow and tastes like it was cooked 3 days ago and tossed in a microwave, etc. But this place was fantastic. The chicken is REAL CHICKEN, white meat crispy chicken. The general tso's sauce was fantastic, not insanely spicy but a nice little kick, perfect taste. Authentic. The fried rice was fresh and actually very obviously fried rice, probably in a wok. The "plain" fried rice had some onions in it, which was a very nice and welcomed touch for a little extra crunch.
