Went in there yesterday around 2pm with my parents. Ordered the beef tartare and and the double gopchang variety.
We asked specifically if the beef tartare uses pears (as it was described on the menu) and the waitress said yes. My father is allergic to apples, so we wanted to make sure as some places use apples instead . Once it came out my mother and I had a couple of the 'pears' and was skeptical because it tasted like apples. We flagged a different waiter down and he went into the kitchen and confirmed that it was indeed apples, and later they told us pears were out of season. Unfortunately my father couldn't eat it so we asked them to take it back. IF we did NOT confirm about the fruit from the get go, we wouldn't have asked to take it back.
They came once to cut the meat in the beginning but did not check on us after at all. The place had maybe 1 or 2 extra tables with multiple servers. We asked them to do the fried rice at the end and the server forgot the seaweed (which it's a staple in the fried rice when they mix it!). We asked about it and even he made a 'oh', remembering about the seaweed and helped us.
I still paid 20% tip despite all the miscommunications, and I wanted to be understanding especially in this economy. I wish I hadn't because when we left, many of the servers were by the door and they LOOKED at us and didn't even say thank you. If it was me and my friends it's understandable but it was with my parents and it was so offensive. The gopchang story in new york was so different in terms of quality of service and food despite being much more busy. I wouldn't be recommending this place to any of my friends until the...
Read moreI’m a bit confused. I came here for the first time after reading all of the positive reviews but my experience was quite disappointing. The ingredients in our dish was very dried out and old so I pulled them all out before eating our stew. There were black edges along the sliced cabbage, black dots all over the napa pieces and when we brought this up to the server’s attention, she nonchalantly responded, “Oh really? Do you want more veggies?” It made me wonder that maybe this happens often and she’s not surprised. I declined the additional veggies because I didn’t even want this dried out black edged ones and I definitely didn’t want more of that! I had to kindly ask her to take the veggies back to the kitchen to alert them of the careless preparation, hoping others won’t have to experience what I did. The rest of the evening, she only came once to ck up on us but went to the other tables often. We understood your message and we finished our meal and went to the hostess to check out. She seemed to know which table we were at immediately because of the poor quality of food that was brought to our table. I’m sorry I had to confront your mistakes but you really shouldn’t think it’s ok to serve a $50 dish with these ingredients (see photos of removed veggies and the after pic of the stew- how it’s supposed to look). I’m calling you out in hopes that this may be a teaching moment for you. Servers should also take a look at the food they are bringing out for quality ck in case the kitchen missed something. You missed the mark with this experience, but hope you can...
Read moreWanted to try this place since they specialize in serving intestines and let me tell you… it was an okay experience.
We came for dinner and the wait was estimated 1 hr but in reality only like 30 minutes.
First off since it was the soft opening they did not have beef or pork BBQ so I will definitely be back for that when the full menu is released.
When it came to the food our table of 4 ordered the double assorted gui, and a bunch of other things and let me tell you the price to size ratio of the food is definitely not worth it. Sure the plate may look big but half of that is vegetables and I could have finished a double by myself and would have still been hungry. For $60 I was expecting way more.
The best part was probably the rice cake that sat ontop of the plate of assorted gui.
We also ordered:
Beef tartar - really good and has a nice chew to it and the sweetness and crunch from the pear is good.
Tripe and Intestine fried rice - I would skip this and order something else it just tasted like fried rice with eggs poured on the sides
Spicy Short Rib Soup - the short rib was delicious and has a nice sweetness to the broth . Small serving size for one.
Cheese Corn - I would not order this ever again. It had onions in it and tasted super sweet like they poured sugar all over it.
Overall I was pretty disappointed I guess I was hyping myself up and was expecting to much. Will be back tho to try...
