WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE I'm at a complete loss as to how this place has 4 stars from a true and unbiased review.
When I looked at the menu I assumed there was a menu with other options. When I was told that this was the menu I looked it over several times. I really should have gone with my gut feeling and left the place. This is not family style, large portions and the prices are very off scale. After having had a meal, I have to say the prices are actually delusional and would never recommend this place to anyone. I would only bring it up to tell people to stay away.
It seems the cooking is what I can only assume as a modern take on traditional Korean dishes. The flavor notes are strange, the portions (versus price) is incredibly small if you don't count the side dishes (bahn chan).
The "pork wrap" is just a tiny plate of sliced pork with a side dish of veggies and single sea weed wrap package. Not even a bowl of rice, which is $2 extra btw if you decide to ask for some. The kimchi does not come out cut, but with scissors for you to do it yourself. The turnip kimchi are cut like a child's alphabet block, very large and also had to be cut with scissors. The other side dishes (bahn chan) looked and tasted old.
The buckwheat noodles is on ice, which does say cold, and is served very icy. Be aware as it's a very cold dish that is considered a traditional summer dish. Their noodles have a very tart, pickled seaweed flavor to the cold broth, so you're aware, and not much of any other flavor. I did not care for it at all. There was no other flavor notes to compliment it at all. Just cold, tart, pickly.
I had eaten about a 1/4 of my noodles when I thought I saw something in my bowl and then felt it in my mouth. A long piece of hair. I was done.
I will say our server was very nice. She seems to be new and was doing her best to answer questions and serve the dishes with their sides accordingly. She made sure we were not in need of anything else. The inside of this restaurant is cute and looks like it has potential. Except that it doesn't with their current menu.
Just have to say there are A LOT of restaurants, both bigger and same size in this immediate area. This was the only one that had almost no customers inside. This should have been a hint. After our meal, we mentioned it to someone we know who has a business in this area. Right away they said they have been told by many to stay away from this place. Everyone they have heard from say the food is terrible and the price is not equivalent to the food.
Highly recommend they redo their menu, food and start with their prices if they're...
Read moreI've visited this place several times and have always had a great experience. Both the service and food quality are excellent, and the flavors are truly authentic. I’ve tried a few different soups from the menu, but it’s tough to pick a favorite because they all taste great and come in generous portions.
Bean Sprout Soup (콩나물국밥): I tried both the regular and the pollack versions during different visits, and I really appreciated the generous amounts of bean sprouts and pollack in the soup. Unlike soups from other places, I found myself getting full from just the bean sprouts even before I started on the rice (though that might be because I usually eat most of the veggies first). The broth is full of flavor and is highly recommended as a hangover cure.
Bossam (보쌈수육): We typically order the 맛보기보쌈, which is a smaller trial size, because it offers enough shareable portions for three people when paired with a soup. This time, when I visited with my parents (a party of five), we ordered the regular size, and there was so much food that we almost couldn’t finish it! It may not look like a lot in photos, but once I started eating, I realized the meat was cut into large pieces, and I was getting full after just a few bites. The oysters were very fresh, and the spicy radish was delicious, making every bite enjoyable.
My family absolutely loves this place; all the side dishes remind me of what my grandma used to make back home. When my partner was sick with the flu earlier this year and didn’t want to eat anything, I got a few takeout orders from this restaurant, bringing him 반계탕, 설렁탕, and 갈비찜. He finished everything and said the food made him feel more energetic. We’ve been coming here whenever we crave nourishing food, and the place has never let us down. I highly recommend this restaurant if anyone wants to enjoy authentic Korean food and experience a warm, welcoming atmosphere, along with generous portions that will leave...
Read moreWe wanted an authentic korean restaurant and we definitely got the experience. We were seated by a short korean lady and maybe a few minutes later more people came in, maybe 4 more tables. I think she was overwhelmed with the amount of people and I could see people becoming impatient with her since she was serving people who had just come in and was forgetting some people who had already been there before them. A korean couple next to us was very frustrated since they had sat there for about 20 minutes with no drinks and no banchan and they got up and left. The waitress went to the table to see if they left anything and rolled her eyes when she say the empty table. After we got our food we were not serviced again, after sitting there with no drinks, and empty plates we decided it would be helpful if we just went to the counter to pay. My boyfriend got up and tried to be smiley and polite since he could tell the waitress was upset and asked for a to-go plate she waitress marched to the table and gave me one while he waited at the counter. She then proceeded to check him out, he said she was apparently really rude and rolled her eyes when she said thank you. I believe him because when I said thank you for my to-go container she shrugged me off and walked away. The food was good, but overpriced and there was no ambience. This restaurant did not feel welcoming at all, every person walking that was asian received a nice hello in korean but for us it was strangely awkward and I had to be the one to initiate being seated. I can understand language barriers and did most of the talking. No refills we paid 3$ for a...
