THE ONE HOTEL BOUTIQUE AND SPA CASTLE….AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I’ll make this as short as possible. DO NOT BOOK HERE-dirty, gross, unhygienic and they will steal your money. I booked a room for a birthday spa day/suite with The One Boutique Hotel affiliated with/connected to Spa Castle Carrollton for Sunday June 2/3rd check out. After arriving at about 8pm to check in, went to room and within 5 minutes we noticed it was completely flooded. Big storm rolled through earlier that afternoon and apparently the facility’s infrastructure didn’t survive the wind and rain. We called from the room after our bags were soaked through after setting them down on a flooded floor and asked to be moved to a comparable room. They said they didn’t have one but could “move [me] into a loft”. I said ok but had to ask (insist on) being reimbursed the pricing difference since my original room was $247 a night plus a “fully refundable at the end of your stay” $115 “incidentals fee”. They were hesitant and I had to go back and forth with management to ensure the price difference would be credited back to my card. Fine ok. Went back downstairs to swap out keys and get our new room keys. Went BACK upstairs, looked around and saw that this “new room” was missing all of the amenities we booked for in the first place-namely-an actual bathtub. It just had an oversized and outdated tiled “shower” with dirty grout and obvious disrepair evident. It looked kinda old, gross and unusable. But whatever. We resign ourselves to this disappointment and stay positive. We plop down on the bed and the tv and remote are completely unusable and no signal could be received. This is NOT a good start to the relaxing spa birthday getaway we planned and paid for but whatever. About 15-20 minutes later, my husband tells me/asks me, “is that an ant?”. Spoiler alert, it was NOT an ant in the bed. I jumped up and started looking through the sheets and sure enough, this NOT AN ANT had a WHOLE FAMILY of friends living with him all throughout the bedding. We got dressed, grabbed our stuff and immediately went back downstairs and DISCREETLY asked for a manger. Other guests from the hotel and the spa were leaving or checking in at that point in the night (around 8:30-9 maybe at this point) so we didn’t wanna gross anyone out, ruin their experience or put the place on blast. We had a “whisper discussion” that our first room was flooded and our second room had bugs all in the bed, and that there was NO WAY we would be staying. We told them we wanted to be honest but discreet to give them time and opportunity to get a handle on the situation with the bugs before they ended up with a full blown outbreak on their hands. The manager apologized and assured us we’d be refunded fully for the room immediately but the $115 incidentals charge would also be refunded in 7-10 business days. He also ASSURED us we would NOT be subject to ANY CANCELLATION fees. My room $247 WAS IMMEDIATELY REFUNDED as the manger said he did on the spot This was June 2. It is now June 14. NOT ONLY have I yet to be refunded the $115 incidental fee charge (shows as taken out of my account and being “held” as pending so I can’t even dispute it even though it’s been credited AGAINST my available balance) BUT TWO DAYS AFTER LEAVING-on June 4th, I was randomly charged $202.27 -for what? I don’t even know! I’ve been calling FOE WEEKS EVERY COUPLE DAYS and asking for management, leaving messages with the receptionist (callback #3 she says, “this is Julie, right? I gave them your message and they are ‘looking into it’ “ ) OK-soooo now I KNOW they have been made aware and are just CHOOSING to ignore me, NOT call me back and everytime I call and ask for management to get an idea on my refund status, I’m told EVERY SINGLE TIME “all the managers are in a meeting”. Ok/when do you anticipate they’ll be available? “I don’t know” THEN, I finally ask how long these meetings typically take so I can show up instead and catch someone in person. Coincidentally, I was given a time where all the managers LEAVE for the day....
Read moreI forgot to get the lovely woman who manages the place name, she made my stay extremely welcoming and relaxing as did the ladies who provided my services (mud scrub, pedi, and correction facial). We took the family on a little get away at The One Boutique Hotel so that the adults could enjoy Spa Castle. Loved the array of apps on the TV to entertain the kiddies on their yes days on vacation. This is a family facility so your kiddo can enjoy the spa as well with some restrictions. They can enter the pools, bath house, and sleep areas. Bath house and locker rooms are nude so if you don't prefer that you can enter the areas without going in them and pick up your spa uniform (worn on 2nd floor not pools) from the front desk. All payments are made upon exiting the spa and drinks/food items are kept on a tab tracked by scanning your locker bracelet (no extra fee for the lockers). The entry into the spa is separate but discounted for hotel guests. Everything opens at 10am and begins closing as early as 7:15pm starting with food and drinks then around 9 for services and finally 9:15 bath house and pools. The outdoor pools are heated which is a personal favorite of mine and is available and beneficial in mostly all weather conditions. There is no carpet in the rooms which I love because with kids it's easy to clean and know it's clean for the Littles. The tub is THE BEST FEATURE of the executive suite, with a shower in the bathing area next to the tub for easy transition to your soak from your scrub. We stayed in room 310 and I was saddened with some of the malfunctions hence that room is a 3 of 5 stars but overall the room layouts are 5 star worthy. The second closet lights, the doorbell, and service light did not work, plus the sink water did not get hot to my needs but the tub did so I just used warm water from there when needed. The fridge also wasn't cool enough to store my breast milk so we made trips to the ice machine and you have to warm food on the second floor in the lounge area same floor as the ice machine, it would be best to be on the second floor with family. After conversations with staff I felt very welcome, relaxed, and understanding of the changes and services in progress to update malfunctions. Please note there is no late check out at this time. The kiddie pool was not open at the time, and I did not have a chance to ask when they would reopen. The penthouse is by reservation only, not an open bar as I previously thought. The atmosphere alone has me wanting to return so the kiddos can enjoy it the way that mommy did but this was just a test retreat and The One Boutique Hotel and it's luxurious spa castle has passed! I am glad this place exists and has survived covid, it is a hidden gem that I pray growth and expansion for. Very Lovely people, very relaxing place where you can...
Read moreSo I've been to spa castle a good number of times and for my bday loved the idea of not having to drive the hour home after a solid day of R&R, and honestly since we only slept in the room, it was worth it. If you were planning on spending a good portion of time in the room and ordering room service and such I would book elsewhere. The hotel itself has very limited amenities for the price point. Really just the convenience of it being attached to the spa is the amenity and even then you're supposed to go check out of the spa every time before going up to the room so if you'd be going back and forth a lot it would be aggravating,
Our room was clean and comfortable BUT you can tell the management/owners don't care for upkeep and repairs. There was a lot of cosmetic damage on the desks that could have easily been hidden with some trim slapped on it or if they had coated them with a waterproof sealant or such. There was a large stain on the counter next to the sink upstairs in the loft that was incredibly dark against the lighter desk. For a room that was essentially $300 after taxes, it made us laugh quite a bit and I was happy I was just paying for it with my cc rewards. If I had been paying straight out of pocket I think I would have been a bit more than miffed.
The daybed had the thinnest mat we had ever seen.I had a futon in college and a $50 mat from Walmart for it that was thicker, so I was pretty surprised at the quality of that. The satin pillows were stained with I don't know what, maybe a hair oil? And it took contacting the front desk (since the housekeeping line was constantly busy) three separate times to get sheets for it. Once right after check in, once when we went back to the room a bit later and once when we were in the room for the evening and ready for bed.
The lights were fine but a few sensors definitely need to be replaced. One light constantly blinked on and off every few seconds and others randomly activated.
I will say one of the larger let downs about the hotel for one of my friends was that we found out the hotel gym doesn't open until 10am. Good news was there was a very nice little 5 mile trail nearby to walk.
Overall I think I would book a room elsewhere in the future and be happier but it was nice...
