This review is regarding back in April 2022. I was searching for a local bakery specifically that makes ube cake which is what I wanted for my birthday. I found this bakery on yelp because of the great reviews and they make ube cakes. I came in on a Monday to place an order on a ube standard round size cake and to also try out their ube hopia and chicken empanada. Prior to heading over there I called right when they opened at 9 am on a Monday in the morning to request ube hopia and chicken empanada to be picked up. The woman that answered the phone told me it should be ready by 11 am. When I got there a young man took my order for the ube standard round cake. I asked him if it can be with macapuno and he said that would be extra. I asked how much extra would that be? He asked the woman that looked like the owner of the bakery. She tells me in a condescending tone that it would cost an extra $6. I said that's totally fine as if I can't afford it. I was turned off by her attitude when she told me that. So I proceeded with the order and paid for it and requested it to be ready at 11am on that following Wednesday. The ube hopia were okay but a bit dry and why is it brown instead of purple??? Has anyone noticed that? The chicken empanada wasn't good. It tasted like a frozen Banquet microwavable chicken pot pie. That was a huge disappointment for the dozen I bought.
Wednesday came, I came in about 10:50 am. I was greeted by a very kind woman employee. I told her that I was picking up an ube cake under my name and she said I'll bring it out. She showed me the cake but I was surprised that instead of purple icing it was pink. I wasn't too bothered but it clearly stated in the receipt I wanted purple icing. So the older woman came in and asked me what message would I like on the cake. I said, "Happy 35th Birthday Christopher" She immediately looked at me strange as if she was expecting the cake for someone else but in all honesty it was for me. I told her, today is my birthday and this cake is for me. She gives me a weird look. I really didn't understand why. I don't see nothing wrong with buying your own personal birthday cake. That shouldn't hurt your business since I'm paying for the cake at the end of the day. She should be happy I'm already invested in ordering something from your established business. Also, I noticed she wrote "Happy Birthday Christopher" leaving out 35th. At this point I was annoyed because I said 35th. I guess she didn't hear me clearly. The nice woman employee was kind enough to wish me a happy birthday even though I really wasn't expecting a birthday wish from anyone. After she wrote the cake message she starred at me from head to toe like I didn't belong there. That was very awkward and uncomfortable . I was very kind to you and your employees, why am I getting this lowkey attitude?!? I left that bakery thinking this is my first and last time coming here. I don't support small business that treat their customers as if they are not welcomed. To be honest, I think the owner of this bakery is...
Read moreIf I could give this place 0 starts I would. The theme of the cake is Wonder Woman. Simple colors red, white, blue, and yellow. The lady who took the order showed us this cake that they had in a binder in the front of the bakery. The only modification I requested was to make the cake round.
Note that my mom picked up the cake a little old sweet lady. She's not the one to argue with anyone. So I called..
My mom picked up the cake today and they have the nerve to say this is what we asked for. The blue stars are perfect, but the cake is ORANGE. The base of the cake is red, it's clearly in the picture of what they offered. I spoke with Jenny I'm assuming the owner and she said the picture of the cake is a "rustic orange" not red. Like seriously do you not know who wonder women is, you have this in your binder. I am not color blind, my daughter loves wonder women, she is not a "rustic orange". The trim of the cake was suppose to be yellow for the lasso, but apparently that as well is a "rustic orange". From the color being a “rustic orange” I then get an apology for the color fading. I didn’t know yellow could fade into a “rustic orange”.
We live in Downey, there is no way I'm making that drive back down for them to spray paint the cake. She said they would give me a $2 refund for the trouble! She never apologized until I sent her a text. A apology will go a long way, then offering a petty $2 refund because you can't make everyone happy. This is a relatively simple cake.
There was another super hero cake they have in that wonderful binder. That cake displays all of the DC super hero's. That base color is "rustic orange". Unfortunately for them I am not color blind. They made the wrong cake and didn't have time to fix it. I rather have been able to pick up the correct cake at a later time, then get a completely wrong order. How stubborn this baker is truly astonishes me. Please go take a look at the pictures, I know I'm not crazy lol just an upset mother.
Well good luck, never...
Read moreI have been going to Jenny's for so many years and this review is long overdue. Cakes are spongy with whipped icing. Icing has a hint if sweetness but not overly sweet like the American cakes from the grocery store when comparing. I've always get the cakes with fresh fruits. Strawberries and bananas are my favorite to choose from. The only thing I didn't like but did not take away from the quality of the cakes is when you do the cake in color. Last time I had a blue cake for a babyshower and it colored my guests' mouths, hands, and whatever it got on. This included coloring your inside if you know what I mean. Overall, will keep it to just white and with little bit of colors for the...
