We were ignored by our server, had to get our own menus, had to get our own silverware, had to ask another worker for help with submitting our order, and had to ask for the check.
Experience: My fiancé and I went here on May 14th for dinner. Originally, we just wanted a drink to extend our first date. Shortly after we asked the server if we could order food and she sighed walked off and never came back. I thought that maybe she was about to end her shift so I didn't think much of it. About 20 minutes later we see she sat another table and continued to serve them. Then she sat another table and continued to serve them. Mind you both of these tables were next to our booth. My fiancé became frustrated but wasn't rude. Instead he got up to get menus for us. We waited another 20 minutes and finally another worker walked by and my fiancé stopped him to let him know how our service was going. I believe that was the manager, he wasn't apologetic but did ask what we wanted to order. Thankfully we were able to get food but we weren't giving silverware and my fiancé had to get them for us. He also had to get the check. Neither of us had an experience like this where our server blankly ignored us while continuing to serve others and we had to basically be our own servers - we had to get our menus, ask another worker for service, get our own silverware, and ask for the check. And because it's worth mentioning, we were the only black guests during that time and were treated terribly. My fiancé called the following day to formally complain and it didn't seem to matter.
Hopefully this review will help improve the service there for all. I was hesitant about writing a review because it was embarrassing; however, this is an opportunity for improvement. While we won't be back, we hope the server, that ignored us while serving everyone else and walked by us multiple times while doing so, is trained and has changed. She was an older woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, blue eyeliner. We didn't get her name because she...
Read moreFirst I want to say that food was ok. Maybe better than before because we were hungry after work. We had nice meal and family of five enjoyed food but this one star came from after the meal where we asked for the check and we were expecting around $150 but we were going to tip around 18% to 20% anyways because it was around 8:45 pm where they close around 10pm. When we saw the check I was so disgusted by the staff that she told me there is 20% gratuity included because party of 5 which included 7 years old son. And I asked waitress( not nice older lady) seems like she was new or maybe the owner’s wife. She told my wife that there is 20% tips included because of party of 5 and she firmly told us or asked us if we do not live here in NC. She told ua that its law in NC that party of 5 automatically get charge with 20% tips on the check. Oh my gosh.! Where that story came from and we as our family owns and runs our restaurant too.!!! Well I was so disgusted how she approached and told us some wrong information. I know that if there is large group then its around 18%. They need to get their act straight because it seems like no one cares in that restaurant except older lady who is always very nice and great.!!! My point is that myself is very disappointed and disgusted by other waitress. I could just point it out and if I really wanted to I could make the big scene and could make big cases about it but since I was there with my family where we were trying to have some nice family dinner we just left. We are not coming back anytime soon.!!!...
Read moreI've driven past Okja a few times and just never stopped in but decided to go there the other night with my wife. We should have stopped by sooner because the food was great and the atmosphere and service was awesome.
Everyone there is super nice and it feels very "at home" while you're there.
We ordered the beef and kimchi stew, spicy chicken bibimbap, and also had a flight of soju of varying flavors. Every thing I tried there was excellent and there was so much of the menu that sounded appealing. I joked with my wife that I wish I could order 6 different meals to try at once because it all sounded great. Instead I'll just be coming back often to try something new each time.
The interior is well decorated and feels cozy with a cool little bar island in the middle of the dining area. The location also has a nice looking patio with large wooden tables and benches that seemed perfect for a late evening spot to have a few drinks and appetizers with friends or loved ones. Though right now it's way too hot during the day to really enjoy it.
Overall I feel like I found a new favorite spot that I'll be returning to often. The staff, service, and food was superb and I'm already planning another visit there. I know that particular building has changed hands a few times over the years but I hope this family/team sees nothing but success so they can anchor themselves there for...
