I really wish I wasn't writing this review, but I feel responsible to warn people of the experience they may have at this restaurant. I have been to this restaurant twice, both for really big celebrations with a large party. The first was for my daughter's 18th bday and the second and most recent, my 40th birthday. The only thing consistent was the food and both times, IT WAS NOT GREAT. What took me back was the service and sadly, I greatly regret my decision. In my most recent experience, we agreed on a 3 course meal for a flat $30/person. That would include a salad, main entre, and dessert. We had 16 people in our party and they NEVER served our salads and only 12 people got dessert but they still charged us $30/person. The meals we were served was NOT what was agreed. Salmon and rice was an option that several chose but what came out was salmon on top of spaghetti. I ordered a pasta dish being vegetarian and so did a few other people and each dish that came out was VERY different. My guest next to me got the very exact thing with no customization and hers had different sauce and garnish. Mine was not very good at all but hers was not terrible. We had chicken pasta as an option and that came out with NO CHICKEN on it. It had tiny chicken crumbles that looked like the crumbs from the bottom of the chip bag. We had a drink order taken once, drinks brought out once and then never refilled. We were there for 2 hours and everyone was so thirsty but couldn't get service for more drinks. We specifically booked my party there because I wanted music and to dance. We were told it was latin night so we were excited. When the music started, we were told we would have to pay $10/guest to dance on the dance floor. When we tried to confront the owner and her serving staff about the disappointment we experienced, they lashed out at us and told us we were being rude and we needed to leave. They would not listen to our concerns but kept interrupting and telling us to get out. We were then told that they were too busy to provide good service. So long story short, we got awful service, different meals than what was agreed upon and even ordered, still charged full price even though they failed to give us 1/3 of our meal, and the food was terrible and treated so disrespectfully. Everyone in my party agreed they would never return. I do not recommend this place. There are so many other options in Cary and the surrounding area where the food is much better and you will be...
Read moreSo something really strange happened. I had gone here to have lunch with one of my friends.
We had a great time. The food was good. I had the stuffed cabbage.
My drink was not good at all. I got the spritzer, and I was not fond of the flavor combination at all.
But overall, we had a good experience.
However, when we left, the Bartender forgot to give me my bank card back. And I didn’t think about it until the next day.
I called and notified them. The young lady who I spoke to was kind and said that she would hold it for me to pick up.
But because I live an hour away from the restaurant, I called a few days later to ask if they could just mail my bank card to me.
The lady who answered said that they COULD NOT MAIL IT.
She said that she would have to CALL MY BANK to see if they can mail it??!!!
My question is: Why would she call MY bank about my Card????… THAT MAKES NO SENSE AND SOUNDS VERY FRAUDULENT!!
Then she said that she preferred to meet me somewhere and give it to me.
But I explained to her that because of my rigorous schedule of clients and the distance, that would be an INCONVENIENCE in and already INCONSISTENT SITUATION.
My advice to SOPHIE’S would be in the future, if a bartender forgets to return a bank card, please make it easier for customers to get their personal and sensitive information back. Especially for those who don’t have the time to return or meet up because of work. And or they live far away.
For some people who patronize your business, it is not always easy for them to get away from work and other obligations . That is why they come to SOPHIE’S. So they can have a relaxing time with NO HASSLES.
There just has to be a better system.
She could have asked me to text her a copy of my STATE ISSUED DRIVERS LICENSE and then she could have put my bank card in the mail for my convenience . That would have made everyone’s life easier.
But for her to call my BANK and she’s not ME…And to give my Bank my sensitive, confidential and personal information…that’s ILLEGAL, FRAUDULENT and SCARY… very SCARY.
In the end, I just told her to DESTROY the card and I reported that card lost to my bank. And was reissued...
Read moreWe have an annual tradition of trying a new-to-us, local restaurant for my husband's birthday dinner each year. We made reservations at Sophie's for this year's dinner last night (2/2/25). We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our reservation time and walked into a dining room that was obviously set up for an event. We waited about 2 minutes before anyone acknowledged us, and when we said we had a reservation for 2, the staff looked quite confused. We were sat off in a corner, yet still having to watch and listen as the event got more crowded and noisy.
We ordered an appetizer, which was placed on our table with no interaction nor plates to allow us to partake. When we flagged a server over to request plates, she said, "We didn't know if we'd have enough with the event." Our water glasses were refilled once, only after we asked. My husband ordered the Hungarian Goulash, which was flavorful. I ordered the Dalmation Chicken Pasta, which was basically buttered noodles - there was very little chicken and 5 small spinach leaves.
The restaurant should not have accepted a reservation at a time when all their space and attention was going to be focused on a private event. Then, we received the bill and provided a card to pay. When it was brought back with the total, a convenience fee for using a card had been added - this practice was not made visible to patrons anywhere online or in the restaurant that we saw. But the bigger issue for us was that our party of 2 was charged an automatic 20% gratuity. The menu stated that parties of 6 or more would receive the 20% gratuity, but that did not apply to us.
After being sat in a corner, not being given plates or refills on drinks, and being unable to talk with one another due to the volume level from the event, having a 20% gratuity added to the bill ensured we will not be returning to this...
