Johnny J's Diner — Restaurant in Casper

Myself and a close friend from out of the country ate supper there on Sunday evening (June 30, 2024). Our waitress (didn't catch her name, but had very intense and vivid blue makeup on her eyelids and eyebrows, and said she was new) was very strange. I ordered chicken fried steak and my friend ordered chicken Alfredo, both of which were supposed to come with rolls. Our waitress came back several minutes after we placed our order and informed me that the chicken fried steak didn't come with mashed potatoes as a side, and that I could only get green beans, corn, or fried okra. I pointed out that the menu said specifically that the meal comes with mashed potatoes and green beans. She came up with 2 or 3 reasons/excuses as to why I couldn't have the mashed potatoes, each excuse different from the last. Eventually she came back and said the 'computer was screwed up' and that she was 'new' and that my meal was coming with mashed potatoes. Several parties of people had come in, ordered, ate their meals, and left before we even received our food, but were assured that our rolls would arrive shortly, as they were in the oven. Supper time seems a strange time to bake a batch of rolls. My chicken fried steak was good enough but came with corn instead of green beans, but i wasn't about to bring that up, expecting more weird excuses so i just ate the corn. Most of the way through eating, our waitress came back to check on us and I asked her about the rolls. Said they were still in the oven, and this was 40 minutes after we were told that the first time. I've never heard of rolls that take more than 40 minutes to bake. We ended up not wanting to wait for an undetermined amount of time for our rolls after eating, as we had already been in the restaurant for well over an hour, so we ordered a couple cups of coffee to go, and left. Incomplete meals, charged $2 a cup for the coffee, and a very strange waitress who seemed strung out or high. 10/12/2025 Update Two visits 3 weeks apart, long wait for food, 1 hour after ordering, and waitress never stopped at table from order to food service to give us update. Owner stopped after and I let her know that servers keeping patrons updated, refilling drinks during long waits, helps. 2nd visit today was even worse. I have never in my life left less than 20 percent tip, except today. Young server, could’ve cared less about service at all. Waited 45 minutes for food, owner refilled drinks, food came partially out and not as ordered for one in our party, had to be redone. Was just watching other 4 to 5 tops that came in after us by 15-20 minutes get their food way before we got served. They had a different server, except for one, and they must have been more regulars than us. Waitress was almost rude with her silence and short interactions. Will not be returning.

Original review: 6 top, great service from waitress! Not really clean, could be a little tidy up between customers at tables. Safety issue with extra chair blocking exit. Chairs stacked by our table. All of that honesty out of the way, Food was excellent! I had a breakfast, bacon eggs, hash browns and toast. Other orders were cinnamon roll french toast, sampler, french toast, eggs benedict, all delicious. Will eat again, just might make sure chairs not a potential...

My family decided to give this restaurant another chance like we do every few years and needless to say this was the last time we'll give them our business. The server was really nice and the manager made an attempt to correct some of the meal. However, it was noisy and chaotic, our order was put in wrong twice, and our food was old as if the bottom of the fryer was scraped for fry fragments and there were only 10-12 whole but old fries. The corndog was over cooked to the point my son couldn't bite into it. The cheeseburger came out with nothing on it, not even pickles nor did we get ketchup or mustard for any of our food. The tortilla smelled terrible as if it had been warmed on a dirty grill covered in old hamburger grease. The kicker was the shakes... none of them were correct, all were watery/runny and tasted terrible. I finally complained because the entire meal was a huge let down and our shakes weren't even close to what we ordered, or ice cream shakes at all. They did remake the shakes and still got them wrong but they were thicker and tasted better.
