China Cafe — Restaurant in Castle Rock

I am not one to complain, I do not think I've even written a bad review before but after my experience tonight I thought I'd share. I order $95 worth of food through online order. It arrived within the 45 minute window for delivery but noticed one item was messed up and another missing, no big deal. I called and they stated I could either get a free appetizer next time or they could deliver the items, I opted for delivery as I paid more for the items than what an appetizer would have cost. I was than informed they would send it right away, 20 minutes passed no big deal. 30 minutes I started to wonder. 45 minutes later I called and was told to hold. The lady put the phone down and you could hear her talking to what seemed like co-workers. After 5 minutes sitting on hold, I hung up and called again. At that time was then informed it just left - 10 minutes later we had the remaining food. The entrees seemed like they just came out of the oven hot and fresh, the wontons and dumplings we ordered were cold and tasted like they had been sitting for awhile. Could have been a bad day, will try them again as my husband was impressed with their Vietnamese. I guess I was just shocked that after ordering $95 worth of food that's how I was treated.

Update Just tried the restaurant again after months... Ordered another $80 worth of food at 7:45pm. Called at 8:45pm as we hadn't seen food yet, was told it was on its way (we are less than 10 minutes drive) and they were down to one driver, never apologized and I just felt blown off. I understand being busy and short staffed.... Here it is 9:15pm and still no food but did just receive a call from the very nice driver apologizing for the delay and stating he was roughly 13 minutes away from us. He will be getting a nice tip but I unfortunately do not know if I'll be using China Cafe again. At least be honest when I order and tell me you are going to be 1 1/2 to 2 hours for delivery due to being short staffed... Hopefully there will be no issues with the food as far as the order being wrong but I am already expecting cold, soggy food. Sad because it's one of the only Chinese places in town I've found the chicken doesn't have a funky taste to it or isn't...

China Café is some of the best Chinese food that I have ever had!

When we entered the restaurant, there were stacks of food ready for pickup and delivery. This was a good sign of things to come. The atmosphere is cozy and their lots of booths to sit at. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service. The owner appeared and came over to welcome us to the restaurant personally.

We started with the Vietnamese Egg Rolls and Crab Cheese Wontons and they were outstanding. The Vietnamese Egg Rolls were packed with a delicious chicken and pork combination and a large serving. The Crab Cheese Wontons were warm and flavorful.

We ordered a variety of plates, so we could all try different things and share. The table was filled with generous portions of all of the dishes. Their Orange Chicken must be their best seller, because it was the best that I have ever eaten. The chicken had an amazing crunch when you took a bite. The Orange sauce was homemade and you could taste the fresh orange and hint of chili peppers. The Jalapeno Beef dish was full of delicious tender beef with a flavorful sauce that tasted of fresh jalapenos. The Drunkin Noodle plate with beef was fresh and flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly and must have been homemade. Once again the beef was tender and tasty. The Fried Rice with shrimp was excellent and had a lot of shrimp. Even though we had enough food to feed a small army, we ordered the Sesame Rolls for desert. They had an amazing texture and a delicious flavor.

Be prepared to take home some delicious food, because we ate until we were full and still had enough left over for several more meals. If you are fortunate enough to live near the China Café, you definitely need to try it! There is no doubt in my mind, you become a regular after you do. We were hesitant to try this place because it had less than 4 stars at the time, but based on some of the reviews I’ve read, it seems like a lot of the poor ratings may have been under older ownership. Nevertheless, the food and service is outstanding. We’ve ordered from here 4-5 times now and the delivery has always been quicker than they estimated, the food is hot, and tastes great. I’ve gotten something different every time and I’ve never been disappointed. I see some people complaining about the price on here, but you get a TON of food for it, and I think it’s pretty fairly priced to begin with and comparable to other locations. Unlike many other Chinese take-out places where the rice and “main course” are together in the same container, China Cafe fills the container completely with the main course and the rice comes in a separate box. This always turns out to be enough food for dinner and then lunch the next day.

Highly recommend, and don’t let the overall rating scare you away! I’m glad we gave it a shot because it’s our go-to place now in Castle Rock. I’ve lived in 6 different states and have had a fair share of different Chinese take out, and this definitely ranks up there with the best...
