Sushi Castle ruined my wife and my Valentine’s Day dinner. We arrived at the restaurant around ten minutes before 5pm and asked for a booth due to my wife’s recent back surgery. We were told that we would have to wait as only the two larger booths were available and were for groups of four or more. We had been waiting for 15-20 minutes when another couple arrived and were given one of the two larger booths. When I asked why not us, we were given the other larger booth after waiting nearly 20 minutes.
Service was slow which I expected on Valentine’s Day. We ordered and were thankful we had beaten the rush as the restaurant began filling up. After we ordered, we watched as five or more tables that had been seated long after us began getting their food. In fact, the couple that was seated in the other larger booth at the same time as us finished their meal and was gone. Our food had not yet arrived.
By this time it was 6:15pm. My wife’s sushi roll arrived and she began eating thinking that my meal was not far behind. She finished her sushi roll as I watched and waited for my meal to arrive. I stopped the server and told him that several tables had been seated, ordered, and finished their meals and I had not even received my meal. I explained that I was so disgusted I wanted to cancel my meal and leave. At that point he admitted it was his fault – he had not “pushed a button” that would have begun my order. Not sure how the button on my wife’s order got pushed and not mine, but that’s not my issue. Why did it take me complaining to finally be told my order was entered late? The server comped my wife’s tea but would do no more. I paid for my wife’s dinner and proceeded next door to Burger King and ate a burger as my wife sat and watched me eat. It was nearly 6:30pm when we left Sushi Castle.
People understandably make mistakes but it’s how the mistake is rectified that matters. Even though this was Sushi Castle’s mistake, they made no effort (except comping a glass of tea) to rectify their mistake. Not once did we get an update on our order - had the server been attentive enough to realize how long we had been waiting and identified and communicated the problem to us sooner, this problem might have been avoided. Needless to say, I will not be going back to...
Read moreI have to update my review. I'm leaving my older review below this new one. Sadly, I am changing my old 5 star review down to a 3 star review. They have remodeled which is good. However the food prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. They have changed the salad dressing, it's not the gingery one as before. The soup (miso) didn't come out hot. I usually get the dinner special and get the cucumber roll instead of California roll. I asked for that this time but they wanted to charge $2 for the change. I decided just to get the entree instead. So no gyoza for me either. So in them trying to upcharge for a switch out for a cheaper roll they also lost $2 as the entree is $2 cheaper. I don't eat fish and I am allergic to shellfish. My and my son's teriyaki beef was lukewarm and had came out fast and first. My hubs food he said it was ok, he got the spicy beef, my other kid got the udon and they said it was "meh". They also usually get a few rolls but chose not to this time as the prices have gone up enough to not justify getting it here. We may be back, but it may be a long time in hopes they will get better.
2021 review: Amazingly delicious! Best Japanese restaurant we've tried here. My son had the chicken katsu and it came with the sauce on it and typically this would cause him not to eat it, but he smelled it and then took a bite and he ate more of it than he usually eats anywhere.
The miso soup was better here than any other place I've had it. The flavor was nuanced and not just "plain ol' miso".
The dinner bento box came with so much I was impressed. It was almost $20 and I almost didn't order based on that but I did and felt the amount of food was great for the price. Came with beef, rice, salad, miso, dumplings and a sushi roll. (I subbed a cucumber roll out for the Cali roll).
And speaking of dumplings these were perfection! I've been disappointed in all other places dumplings since moving to CO until here.
This will definitely be our go to place...
