Super casual joint. I was there around 4pm on Friday so it was super quiet. For about 20 minutes, we were the only 2 customers in the store. To my delight, there were 3 young Chinese staff (all employees and not family owned) and all of them spoke Mandarin so I got my chance to brush up my conversational Mandarin with one of the friendly servers during the lull service period.
First, let's talk about food... So it smelled great coming into the store, but I found out that's the dinner prepared for staff. Haha! Right, back to food available on the menu...
There were just me and my middle schooler trying out this 2 month old store this afternoon at 4pm, right after school dismissal. So, we couldn't order a lot. We mainly tried their Appetizers today: (1) Wonton in Chili Oil (2) Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (3) Shumai and one of their noodles (4) Rouzao Noodle Bowl.
First of all, the TRICK to ENJOYING good dumplings is to eat them when they are piping hot! And these were piping out! That's a BIG PLUS. Since I didn't want to rush my late afternoon lunch, I kept the lids on the steamers after the initial photo was taken. The lids are able to trap the heat within the steamers for about 5 mins while I ate the noodles first. Ideally, I would want to start eating them a lot sooner.
So the Rouzao Noodles were pleasant. Chewy noodles with a few mouthfuls of ground pork in pickled mustard sauce, two leaves of Bok Choy (which still had a bit of nice crunch), a full soy braised hard boiled egg, and a dusting of scallions on top. While it was tasty, I wish there was a more pronounced flavor but it was kinda muddled. The soy braised hard boiled egg was great. I added some chili oil that was available on the table.
My kid and I enjoyed the Steamed Shrimp Dumplings the most today. We'll definitely be ordering them again when we return, which we will. You can tell there's real ground shrimp and the wrapper skin was clear and soft. Eat it on its own or lightly dipped into the very light soy sauce also available on each dining table. So, I totally recommend this appetizer, just remember to eat it while it's very hot! :)
The Wontons in Chili Oil was alright. It has the right amount of spiciness for the average American palate. I wish the wrapper skin wasn't as dense but that's just me.
The shumai was slightly sweet and I feel it would be a better fit for very young kids who are trying dim sum for the first time. It's nothing like the Shumai from real dim sum restaurants. My kid and I didn't like the fillings as it felt very pasty. It tasted very much mass-produced. We didn't finish it since it's our least favorite dish. We will never order this again but if you have young kids new to dim sum, this will be like an entry level dish for them to try.
Overall, since it is our first preliminary tasting, I'd give a 3.5 star for the food we tasted so far. It's a fast food dim sum and it tastes exactly like what you'll expect from it so I guess that will meet customers' expectations.
Later, we did order two baos/steamed buns To-Go (1) Chasu Baos and (2) Pork Baos for breakfast tomorrow morning. I'll re-steam them at home. UPDATE: Re-steamed the Baos the next morning, the Chasu Baos tasted good, the Pork Baos were okay. We can get better tasting ones from Sam's Club sushi bar here in Castle Rock.
From what the servers told me, this is NOT a local family owned business, but more like...
Read moreI finally got to try Dumpling Kitchen in Castle Rock, and let me just say—it lived up to the hype! If you love dumplings, noodles, and all things comforting and flavorful, this spot is a must-visit.
I started with the pork soup dumplings, and they were absolutely perfect—thin, delicate wrappers filled with the most flavorful broth and tender pork. Each bite was a little explosion of savory goodness. Next up, I tried the pan-fried pork dumplings, and wow—the crispy bottoms with the juicy filling inside? Chef’s kiss.
For my main dish, I went with the spicy beef noodle soup, and it was exactly what I needed on a chilly day. Rich, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and just the right amount of heat. You can tell everything is made fresh, and it makes all the difference.
The vibe inside is casual and welcoming, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout, the service is quick and efficient.
If you’re in Castle Rock and craving some seriously good dumplings and noodles, Dumpling Kitchen is the spot. I’m already thinking about what I’ll...
Read moreThe food tasted ok but the quantity of each dish did not seem to be adequate for the cost. This is a fast food restaurant but it took awhile to even receive our food when no one was there. They even served us two wrong dishes and proceeded to take both away (after I picked one up and lifted it to my nose and then stirred the other with my spoon), but the lady decided to let me keep the smaller dish that was only a miso type soup. The other dish was wonton soup (which had meat) so she took it away, also because it was in the wrong sized bowl; I ordered a kid size wonton soup and was given a regular sized bowl, although the kid sized bowl wasn’t even that much smaller than the regular size. I would highly not recommend this place. You’re better off spending your money at Panda Express or dollar scoop to get more fulfilling food. I don’t think it deserves the praise it has...
