Neveria Colima — Restaurant in Castro Valley

Updated: 12/30/22 Again, this guy's ice cream is the real deal. Of the ice creameries I've tried in the Bay Area, he's on top with Salt and Straw in SF, and Caravaggio's gelato in Berkeley. Creamy with good Mexican flavors which will appeal to many of us. I've been coming back daily. When it comes to ice cream, I usually like the cream flavors as opposed to fruity flavors. Ones I recommend are: Oreo, Pinon/pine nut, and Nuez/pecan.

Being raised with a Chinese flavor palate, some of his flavors don't agree with me, but I definitely recommend people to try this place out. Excellent quality ice cream here.

Previous post (around August 2022) Even the smallest cone was a lot of ice cream for me. I got the Gansito ice cream that has the Mexican sweet, Gansito, a chocolate covered cake filled with strawberry syrup and cream. I don't think I would get this flavor again but the guy's ice cream base is great. Good flavor and fluffy texture. While the premise could use more decor, just come for the ice cream. Happened to find this little gem by accident. I was looking for another establishment when lo and behold there it was in front of me. It was lunch time and so I figured I would get something light and rather healthy like some tacos without a tortilla or a taco salad.. 2 carne asada street tacos and one fish taco is what I got and they were excellent. The carne asada was fresh and you didn't have to chew it for an hour before it would go down. Nicely seasoned. Only ate one of the little tortillas they came with to shed some carbs. I didn't put any salsa on them so they were rather dry. Nothing to do with the restaurant that's just a personal preference. The fish taco was very good also. A nice piece of fish lightly battered and fried. It tasted fresh and wasn't oily from being in the deep fryer for too long. A great little family owned restaurant (I'm assuming) with very good food. The ice cream is amazing. The texture is difficult to describe but it is soft and creamy. I got the Oreo flavor and I made the mistake of only getting one scoop. But I will be back.

I also tried my cousins ice cream and she got one scoop of corn and one scoop of cheese, hear me out and give it a try if you're feeling adventurous. It may not be typical ice cream flavors but they were amazing!!

They do not do free taste samples though unfortunately, but I can understand. Some people just take advantage of free samples/tastings and they are located in a busy intersection that is very close to a high school so imagine if they had to give free samples to every single person... They should at least look into charging for samples because I want to try some flavors without committing to a whole scoop. I would definitely pay for like a little sample...
