The food is good and it's a cute place but it's expensive. Simple hot sandwiches that are around $15 to $18 with 1 side. They had other options that were in the $20s+ stuff like cobb salads, meat loaf, home cooked type foods. Some looked good when they walked by with them. Service is ok, they forget you sometimes if you're outside on the porch with all the flies, they had ceiling fans that could have helped with that but they were off, they did give this little fan thing for your table that spun above your food horizontally to cause a small bubble around center of table but then you had to reach under it to get to your food as it made your food cold and flies still harassed you. Their sandwiches are like Rubens and other hot types of sandwiches. It's all tasty but it's not a place most would do on the regular. They're sandwiches that other places that price would be something more substantial. More like an occasional treat? I got the alsatian, it was ok :/ ...the broccoli soup was in the small bowl, more like a small coffe cup that was wide at the top and shrunk as it went down so only 2 pieces of broccoli could fit in in, it was really good but really heavy fat, you could taste the cream in it. The tortilla soup was ok. My friend got a spinach, bacon, mushroom quiche (thr special) I think she paid like $16 for a single pie slice, maybe 1.5" at the crust line and 2 sides, at that price i thought she was going to get a small personal quiche or something. The bacon was on top like a crust, but the whole thing was kind of dry from sitting out? and not a lot of flavor. She ended up not finishing it. We got the peach cobbler and the lady kept asking do you want icecream with it, i was like nah iam ok and she kept asking like, are you sure cobbler goes best with icecream so we finally said yes had a bite or 2 left the rest to melt cause didn't really want it to begin with just trying make my server happy cause she seemed to reallywant us to get it...when i got the bill i saw why it was an up charge. When it was all said and done the total for 2 to have a small lunch of 1 sandwiche, 1 quiche slice, 3 sides, 2 waters, 1 desert was almost $60. Maybe I'll wait a year and...
Read moreThis "cafe" is everything rolled into one----charming outdoor seating away from the building as well as tables on the porch. White table clothes, updated beautiful high ceilings with all the nuances of a small Texas town when I visited my grandmother as I grew up. Creaky wood floors that are authentic, etc. Just full of charm. Friendly staff and helpful. Menu has lots of variety with a twist of chef delight in every dish. You could order blind folded and love whatever they brought you. I will be returning for the 3rd time this week to take my husband for lunch there. You are never rushed, no matter how crowded. And they can turn over a room in nothing flat. Just go to enjoy yourself and get away from the traffic and hustle, bustle. Aside from the great food, there is shopping all around not far from this restaurant. Take a few hours and relax and stroll the area. Talented artists making beautiful pottery, as well as antique finds you will surely love. Park your car and walk to the stores...
Read moreSo disappointed with our dinner there just now. I read up on reviews and thought after a glorious day exploring Castroville what a quaint finish this would be. We were hungry and thirsty. Waitress seemed like she didn’t want to be there and where we we’re seated was next to where the staff all sat, disgusting people’s affairs (gossip) absolutely no atmosphere in there at all. No music and another couple sitting in silence probably regretting picking there to eat also. With tip and two very bland pasta was $50. For a protein was extra $4 and $5 for shrimp!! Should have all been in. Overly expensive!! Wished We had of chosen the pizza place next door, active with people and reviews all good. Smelt delightful. What could be a gem and rustic location is just bland and tasteless food. It could be so much more if it was run...
