I would rather give 2.5 stars, but that's not an option, so it's 2 stars. I'm not sure where the people who give this place 5 stars have eaten before, but they have never had good catfish or shrimp. Or chicken tenders. Or gravy.
Here's the breakdown of my family's meal:
I ordered the combo platter (fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried scallops, stuffed crab, hush puppies, and fries). Everything was pretty greasy and nothing tasted like it was breaded by hand and made fresh. It all reminded me of what I buy at Costco or Sam's to take home and deep fry in my kitchen. There was no flavor other than the grease.
My wife ordered the chicken fried steak. The steak itself was actually hand breaded but it was way overcooked. It was actually burnt around the edges. The gravy was a mix, which is disappointing considering the steak was hand breaded. Her "seasoned rice" was pretty bland. The baked potato was good, but anyone can make a baked potato.
My oldest son ordered the blackened tilapia with seasoned rice and veggies. The tilapia was okay, but didn't have a ton of flavor for something blackened and wasn't all that fresh. Again, the rice was bland. The veggies were okay.
My middle son ordered the popcorn shrimp with fries and hush puppies. It was the same as my food. Not handmade and greasy.
My youngest ordered the kids chicken strips with fries. Again, frozen stuff from a big box store and even then, not all that good.
On the positive side, the service was spectacular and the server was polite and quick to refill drinks.
Overall, I'm very disappointed and wondering if anyone who gave this place a high rating has ever eaten much seafood. I don't have any idea how this place has the same rating as Pappadeaux. People in Cedar Park must be clueless about good food.
Next time I want the things we ordered on this trip, we'll go to Cotton Patch. They do all...
Read moreIf I had know that the best Cajun boiled crab legs were just down the street from me, I would’ve never gone to Joe’s Crab Shack all these years!
I ordered the food to-go over the phone. The male that took my order on the phone was quick and on his feet, yet nice at the same time. Loved that! Walking into the restaurant, it was jam packed. Not a single dry seat in the house. They still had my food ready within the 20min window they estimated to me over the phone.
I got 3 fried catfish meals, a cup of New England clam chowder, and 2lbs of Cajun boiled extra spicy crab legs. They stuffed my bags with additional plasticware, cocktail and tartar sauce.
The catfish (along with the fries, hush puppies and bread) were splendid. Super crunchy and great flavor! Not sure if they make their own tartar sauce, but it sure tasted like it cause it was divine!
The crab legs were the best crab legs I have ever had..EVER. I got them boiled extra spicy and they did not even try to be nice about it. It was so spicy, but I loved every bite. The flavor of the spicy Cajun seasoning juices rolled in with lemon and orange wedges, garlic, mushrooms, potatoes, onions, and corn made for a beautiful blend that sent my taste buds soaring!
As for the soup, I can’t say anything as I have yet to find the room to eat it (too much crab legs). However, I think I can say confidently that if everything was stupendous, why wouldn’t the chowder???
I look forward to eating my leftover chowder as well as my last crab claw, potato, and corn for lunch tomorrow!
Best experience here with incredible food! Don’t wait years to finally try this place out like I did and get your butt over there ASAP! (So many years wasted....) I will definitely be back when I need my crab leg fixin’ again!
Thanks, C.R. Surf & Turf! Y’all really...
Read moreFor a first time experience I was thoroughly impressed! The wait was lengthy due to arriving shortly before 8pm which I highly recommend not doing as they close at 9pm. If customers are still eating by 9pm they will patiently wait for you to finish. A huge blessing! I tried fried frog legs for the first time in my life & I was very pleased! The dipping sauce when used in small amounts added just enough zing to make the flavor pop. The flavor & texture I would describe was a mix between chicken & Calamari. I decided to order the Surf & Turf with 2 sides for $19.99. A great deal for sure! My surf was Fried Oysters & turf was Steak Kabobs with sweet potato fries(Amazing!😍) & Asparagus(the right mix of crunchy & tender). The dish came with a sweet cocktail dip(stellar!), a Caujin tarter sauce(creamy & the perfect blend), & their own take on an Au Ju dipping sauce for the steak(a splendid complementary to the steak!). Since I cannot eat rare or medium rare meats due to getting severely sick, I ordered Well Done. Normally it is a nightmare to find anyone let alone a restaurant that can cook a Steak well without it either being Burnt, Tough, or lacking in flavor. I have found my favorite place to cook the perfect well done steak! I am so in love with how well they show their skill & passion for their food. It really shows & I can't thank Surf & Turf staff enough for how amazing they do. I also got a surprise when leaving & asking the staff member who held the door for my family & I to give complements to the Chef. The staff member turned out to be the Chef! How awesome is that! Thank you so very much for such a wonderful first time experience. We will definitely come back again, albeit a much earlier time so we can enjoy our food & not hold up staff from leaving work on...
