Third visit to Burger Bar today. These burgers are SOLID. I'd never had a smash burger before and I am quickly warming up to them over thick burgers you can't even cram into your mouth. The edges are perfectly crispy and the buns are beautifully buttered and toasted. I've enjoyed the Cheeseburger, the Figgidy Goat, and today I had The Pretender. Don't discount this black bean patty, folks! I was fully expecting a bland, pre-frozen and microwaved patty that most other burger places offer, but this patty was given the full smash treatment, crispy edges and everything. As others have mentioned, $15 for a burger seems a bit excessive. It comes with fries (enough for 2 people) but I wish you could switch out for o-rings. On the other hand, the o-rings are the heavily breaded Sysco variety - really disappointing. They have a well stocked bar and several taps, and I really appreciate that they carry a decent selection of mocktails and N/A beers. Now let's get to the service - it's hit or miss, depending on the day. They are clearly still in "early days". The one time we ordered take-out it took forever and the food was cold and dry when we got it home. Our server today was a little too friendly/chatty, coughed over our table, and his breath reeked of cigarettes. On other days, the service has been fine or even great. I think we will be regulars as it's a half mile walk from our house, we've been needing a good burger place in the neighborhood and it will be a blast during football season. Just hope they can work through the...
Read moreSaturday evening, 9/6, was a complete disappointment at Burger Bar. From the moment we arrived, things were off. The host greeted us with confusion and then directed us to a dirty table. I just stared at him, hoping he’d realize, but instead, he walked off and continued seating other guests, asking if he should clean the table for us. Seriously? That should’ve been his job in the first place.
The appetizers were the only decent part of the meal onion rings were crispy, cheese curds were fine, and wings are hard to mess up. Our waiter got them to us quickly, but then completely forgot about us for the main course. After about 30 minutes, we were already fed up, and when the burgers finally came out, they were dry, overcooked, greasy, and tasted weird with the wrong toppings. How do you mess up a simple burger?
Overall, the experience was a mess, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Cedar Park needs better dining options, because you’re definitely not going to find quality or consistency here. Drive a little further if you want a good meal.
Update: After dining here, both me and my friend experienced symptoms of nausea and stomach discomfort that lasted through the night. It might have been the food was not fresh. Hoping this was a one-off experience, but it was disappointing given our intial...
Read moreUpdate: Came back a few weeks later and the burgers were way better - stuff is clearly getting ironed out and they're doing great work in the kitchen. Five Stars.
Giving it a four, but with a caveat. First off, the service is EXCELLENT, the beer is cold (with a great selection) and there are plenty of TVs to watch the game. Oh and the french fries? Delicious. However the place is pretty new and still clearly ironing out some rough spots in a few places. The A/C is crazy cold, blowing napkins off our table, and the TV sound systems were having issues when we were there - repeatedly blasting static for minutes at a time for some reason. Super annoying.
As far as the burgers? They're solid. My wife loved hers (even though they forgot a topping she specifically requested) and I had the Modern Bleu, which was a B- at best. It's described as a sauteed onion and mushroom burger with bacon and bleu cheese, but it definitely had like swiss or something on it instead, no onions and very bacon forward. I'm not a send it back person, and it wasn't exactly bad, but definitely not what I thought I was ordering. We'll be back for sure, as we did have a good time, but hopefully they get their growing...
