Tasty breakfast. Plated with care. Where the yokes run wild and the whites stand fast. Better than typical wheat. They serve REAL butter. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Not that mambie pambie wanna be spread 🙌🏼😂 Overall yummy. Hash browns are done right. Though the bacon appears recooked from prep. It was okay 👍🏼
Vicki and Gretchen are gems. Friendly. So fast to the table … I’d just moved my finished plate to the side … and it disappeared. When a cup was empty magically someone appeared on time to refill.
A friend invited me to a veteran breakfast with other friends. The staff accommodated a group of eight allowing us to rearrange tables to include a booth upon request when extra folks arrived. Since the back room wasn’t available. Thank you :)
I’ve eaten this basic breakfast across America since joining the military. Plus, during college cooked for a few places making this for others. My view has experience. It was tasty.
Forgot to ask the cooks name. Thank you for accommodating the request on the eggs. Keep up the great job.
As for the other meals with the group … everyone’s been here before and plan to return. The various plates looked happily prepared. No one complained. Said they enjoyed their food and service.
I miss the pizza oven from years ago. When this restaurant went by a different name. I ate many a meal from it. But for the area post covid this seems a needed spot to grab a home cooked meal with a friendly smile. Reminds me of a low key diner vibe in a small town.
Read other reviews that complained about the food. One in particular caught my attention. As an east coaster who gets the food isn’t the same as what I grew up or visit back home … plus, I’ve eaten and cheffed in top notch high end establishments while also having experience cooking in a diner during college … why visit a diner vibe and lump it in with the area?
There’s so many great restaurants in Linn and Johnson country. If ya want a home cooked meal the Barn is a great bet.
If you’re needing some cultural style options with national pride of their home country will find authentic Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Sushi and more hosted by classic themes and contemporary wow all within a short distance between Linn and Johnson county.
The Breakfast Barn is good eats at an average price for Cedar Rapids. The food tastes good and is prepared and plated with care. Exactly how I requested.
Please give this joint a try before buying the negative reviews. The staff are accommodating. Will help concerns if you take time to chat with them.
Keep up the good...
Read moreI was in yesterday with my sister for a breakfast brunch for her birthday. She had seen quite a few pretty good reviews on the local foodies page so chose this as the place she wanted to try. I should have known going at noon on a saturday wasnt the best bet (as having been a previous rush hour breakfast cook years ago at a popular breakfast restaurant the A team tends to go home at that time and a lot of clean up and prep is being done) but there was only the two of us and very few people in the restaurant so I thought we were safe. We werent. The table we sat in was sticky. I sat my phone down and when I picked it up it was covered in gunk of some kind that I had to wipe off with wet napkins. Once our server finally got to us and took our order (she ordered 2 pancakes with a sausage side, I ordered eggs benedict no meat avocado instead, hollandaise on the side) we proceeded to wait probably close to 40 MINUTES for our food! Our server did not come back to our table to tell us our food would be just a bit longer until the last 5 minutes. Mind you, there were literally only 4 other 2/3 people tables in the entire restaurant. Once we did get our food, the hollandaise was cold. I sent it back and got it warmed up. Food was good aside from that. Listen, the only thing on my plate they actually really needed to COOK was my poached eggs...she got 2 pancakes and small sausage side. 40minutes for that in a dead restaurant is nuts. Our server not checking on us and apologizing for it is also crazy. I left her a better tip than she earned only because this economy is shit and working in the service industry is a nightmare on a good day sometimes but I promised my sister I would mention her here so if management sees this she has an opportunity for improvement. She had a butterfly tattoo on her neck (very cool btw.) So yeah, suffice it to say we likely will not be returning or recommending others do so. Maybe during a morning rush shift things are better but I dont see an excuse for...
Read moreI had been wanting to try this place for some time and was really excited about it. As a fairly new arrival to Iowa, I have found myself on the hunt for a good restaurant, something that Iowa seems to struggle with. Breakfast Barn seems to fall right in line with the rest of the horrible spots. I thought for sure I was just about guaranteed a great breakfast since I specifically went there on a Sunday. I figured being a busy day, I would surely get delicious fresh food. Not so much! My plate was a burnt, brown, flavorless, unappealing mess. I couldn't even differentiate between the eggs and the potatoes. Nothing had flavor, aside from the nonstick stray that was used on the grill. Zero flavor!! Just completely blah. I've had better food in the hospital. I also ordered an English muffin. One would assume an English muffin ordered on a busy Sunday would be very fresh. It wasn't. Completely stale. Do you have any idea how stale an English muffin has to be for one to determine it's lack of freshness AFTER being toasted! It was like eating rubbery cardboard. Just so disappointing. For the life of me cannot understand how the good folks of Iowa continue to solicit these pathetic excuses for restaurants!! I can completely appreciate that different regions have different tastes and perhaps Iowa is a bit more bland than other places but, this is a whole new level. I would be willing to pay $100 a plate for a decent place at this point. Literally, not one restaurant in Cedar Rapids that can offer consistently good food. They would have lines a mile long!! Sadly though, these restaurants realize that people will pay for garbage and that becomes the standard. Rather disturbing that Kwik Star offers better food than any restaurant in town. So sad. So, another spot that I will not return to. On a good note, the staff at Breakfast Barn was great. Truly, the friendliest and warmest experience I've had. I think that may be the single reason they are still...
