Bowsers is awesome BBQ, and the staff is always super cheery/friendly. We actually love going here but there's a few changes they could make this place even better. It's first come, first serve on the tables (sit anywhere type joint). They have a bar with beers on tap/bottles/take-away, and some cocktails too. Very clean in the dining portion, and love that they support local with all of the High School teams - love that they really are apart of the community. They have high top tables with stools (wish they had backs), family size tables, and seating at the bar. It's usually always pretty crowded for dinner so get there on the earlier side, and they have dessert, salads, sandwiches too, and have a great menu with tons of combinations!
The reason for 4 stars and not 5 are because: They're a BBQ restaurant and don't have ribs. They used to have them but they took them off the menu. With that being said, when they did have ribs, they were SUPER small (and I had their wings recently and they were on the smaller side too). They use single-use utensils/Styrofoam. It'd be a nice if they were a bit more eco-friendly. If you ever sit at the bar and peer into the kitchen, I'm pretty sure you would up and leave. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years - probably why the food is so good LOL but seriously, someone needs to deep clean that (there were veggies all over the floor, looked super greasy/dirty) For a BBQ joint, THEY NEED BETTER NAPKINS. That is probably one of my biggest pet peeves about them. You're eating barbeque wings, pulled pork sandwiches, etc. and they have these cheap 1-ply napkins that you need about 50 to wipe your hands with. I don't necessarily like their sauces but that's personal preference.
*Pro tip: they had smoked wings with a spicy garlic sauce and they...
Read moreThis place looks like a bad idea from the outside but don't judge a book by its cover. Located off the main strip in Center, this place will not catch your eye and can be hard to locate unless you're actively seeking it out, but let me assure you it's worth it! The staff was exceptionally personable and informative. The beer selection may not be the most extensive but they emphasize quality over quantity. We went on a Saturday so we were talked into getting their pastrami Reuben special which my gf and I split between us. On top of that we tried their brisket fries with 4 different bbq sauces. The sandwich looks intimidating but while you may think your jaw is in for a workout, you're surprised when you can cut through the pastrami like a hot knife through butter. This sandwich tastes of authenticity. The fries concoction looked equally daunting but the tasty smoked brisket bites, ranch, and cheese combined with the uniquely flavored sauces kept us going until we were about to burst! While I was a fan of the sweet bbq followed by the bourbon bacon, my gf's order was the opposite. For both of us, the NC vinegar based sauce and hot (cajun?) bbq sauces rounded out the bottom but would be an upgrade over the sauces offered by Mission BBQ in Robinson. Unfortunately we just couldn't fit dessert but plan on it during our next trip. As for beer, my gf prefers sweet while I prefer strong bitter IPAs. We were both pleased with our choices but the highlight may have been the Yuengling Hershey chocolate porter they have on tap. This may be the best chocolate porter I've ever had. I mean, what says Pennsylvania more than a Pottsville/Hershey Park collaboration? This place will be a go-to for the foreseeable future as we are both excited to try the rest of their weekly specials and...
Read moreWe used Bowser's BBQ catering for our daughter's rehearsal dinner for around 100. We used the package of 3 meats and 2 sides but upgraded. We opted for the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, coleslaw, beans and potato salad. The food was fabulous!!! The ribs were pull off the bone tender, the pulled pork was so flavorful and tender and the brisket was so smokey and juicy! The beans, coleslaw and potato salad (non-egg for and allergy sufferer) were delicious. They brought everything to the house and set it up and brought a hot box for the extra food to be put out when needed. That included plates, napkins and plastic ware. They came after the event and even brought containers for us to put the leftovers in. There was so much food. Everyone remarked at how delicious the food was!. No one left hungry! My only complaint would be more sauce! They provided 4 containers of each sauce but it is so good, we could have used more! Would highly recommend, reasonable price, quality food and good service. Side note: we were able to go to the restaurant and ask to sample the foods we were considering. This was very helpful since the grooms family was from out of town and could sample things before we ordered! ...
