I ordered the durian cake for mother's day. Over the phone, I asked how much it was. $61??? Holy I had to bite my tongue and say OK. BEST decision I made. When I went to pick up the cake, the guy at the counter was incredibly excited about the cake and explained in full detail how it was made with REAL durian meat. "1 durian cake uses 1 whole box of real durian." He reiterated to me to put it in the fridge as soon as I get home. He told me that if I like durian, I will love the durian cake. And I sure did! It was so delicious, even my mom who isn't crazy about cake and always tells me NOT to buy her cake (classic Asian mom who doesn't want her children to spend on her), loved the cake and told me that it was worth it. She also told all of her friends about it the next day and made me give her details about the bakery and cost and everything. It had strong durian flavor without being overly pungent. It was moist and fluffy, and also not too sweet (iykyk). There were small chunks of durian dispersed throughout the cake. It even looks like a real durian! The artwork was very realistic and you can tell that they really care about their cakes - both the flavor and the décor. 10/10 would recommend and this is coming from someone who isn't that crazy about cakes. On another note, my boyfriend is not a fan of durian but he loved it and kept trying to eat my...
Read moreThis place is the best Asian bakery in Atlanta!!!!!!! I love it so much!!!!! Actually my ex took me here at the first time, even though we were not getting together anymore, but I still wanna thanks him. This bakery really made my bad life goes better. The owner is so nice, every time I go there I can speak Cantonese to him. I went yesterday and told him I need to back school on ground and he feels bad for that. Yeah that’s totally not a good idea during this pandemic time, but we don’t have choice. When I was gonna check out, the owner wanna give me two cakes for free. I was so appreciate for that but I insist no. I also baking and I know baking these kind of soft, perfect sponge cakes are not easy. Then the owner saw I took the vegan bread, because I never tried about that, he explained to me how he made these vegan breads and insists to give me it by free. I also wanna the black boba latte( it is so good), but he said this will be cold drink. But I wanna some to warm me, so he just changed the way to make it, to make the latte to be warm. I was so moved. He is so kind to me. And maybe just because when I opened the door and said to him:”I came here last Tuesday but you was closed, and I miss your breads and cakes so much”. I love this place a lot, it just make me feel like back home. Thank you...
Read moreMy review is purely based off of the pastries, but after seeing everyone else's comments I look forward to trying their cakes in the future. The bread is very soft, fresh and melts in your mouth. Things you should know: I. PARKING Family Baking is in the "Chinatown" of ATL. It shares a free public parking lot with other businesses in the plaza. I've never had difficulty finding a space even though the lot is packed on weekends. II. SERVICE You need to spend $10 minimum for a card payment or else have cash on you. I really like that this business has a vegan section. Tbh, it's the only Asian bakery I've seen with this trendy detail. III. QUALITY Fresh. The bread, you know, makes it breaks a pastry. Most people rely too heavily on the filling content to pull through for the sad bread quality, but you don't have to worry about that here. I just wish their fillings were more dense, but that's my personal preference and baseline. As for interior esthetic, I wouldn't say this is the type of bakery you go to and sit over some coffee with friends. It's more of a grab'n go location. IV. CAPACITY We came on a Sunday around 2ish. When you'd expect the lunch rush to leave the place with slim pickings, but we were pleasantly surprised to see they were very...
