Absolutely horrid.

Came in for a hair straightening treatment that I’ve done regularly for 20 years as t many different hair salons. I repeatedly asked them ahead of time if they use the proper type of chemical because occasionally I’ve experienced chemicals used that did not straighten as well and did not last as long. They answered affirmatively on the phone and in person. Turns out, they do not. Instead, they used cheap harsh chemicals that not only did it NOT straighten, it destroyed my hair texture. Rather than being smooth and easy to handle as I would expect, it is burnt to a crisp. And still not straight! They knew the chemicals were going to burn my hair too because the owner kept trying to push me to purchase their products that “care for the hair texture”.

But not only that, the basic haircut itself is completely devoid of layering even though I communicated that I would like the cut to be layered. Instead, the haircut looks like an elementary school child cut it with scissors themselves - simply a flat line with no style at all.

And to add insult to injury - it is EXTREMELY expensive. The highest I’ve ever been charged anywhere for the same hair treatment. Never again.

I've been coming here for decades since my Chinese School days at the Culture Center. I can always count on my hairdresser Ms. Song for a quick, reliable fade and pleasant conversation.

If you have thick straight hair, i.e. you are of Asian descent, come here instead of taking a risk at Great Clips or some $$$$ boutique wypipo barbershop in midtown who still hasn't figured out how to cut Asian hair.

Pro Tip, which really applies anywhere: if it's been a while since your last visit, it's well worth getting a wash and dry to catch any pesky areas that stick up when they aren't weighted down.

I was looking for a salon who took walk ins, after stopping at 3 previous salons and being turned down I finally found International Hair Design!!! I'm soo thankful I went here, ladies are super nice and have magical hands. Very gentle with washing my hair and brushing it, I have very little hair but the hair i do have gets very tangled soo I was worried what the end results were gonna be.
