Li'l Porgy's Barbeque — Restaurant in Champaign

I have to say that the young man at the register was nice and kind. The one thing I didn’t like is when I asked, to check my order. The young man who presented me with it stated, “ go ahead and check it you think I’m lying.” Why do we have to make such comments when working within the customer service field. Reason said there’s so much going on these days with the craziness of the world. I as a consumer should not feel pressure or have the feeling not to check my order and just get out of there . Because I felt so pressured. My mind said keep your mouth closed. And you shouldn’t have to feel that way when you’re making a purchase. Anyways beside that there were side cracks upon name, for he did even know me.( that's something friends do when are little) Therefore, I rated as I did because I asked for center cut and they slipped some end pieces under the bottom for they are very chewy and hard that’s the reason I don’t like them. Another reason the unwanted comment when I arrived, and when I picked up my order, and not getting what I supposed to get in my order. Thank you! I’m not looking for a refund I just wish I could have been treated...

Lil Porgy’s Bar-B-Q is located right on University Avenue, near a few other dining options and some strip malls. I visited with my entire family (husband, mom, and 2 kids) on a Friday night. Don’t let the outside façade of the building fool you – it might not look like much, but the food is dang good!

The Good: We loved that the menu was limited to a few items (making it easier to make a choice on what to order). There’s your ribs, rib tips, chicken, shrimp, and a few sandwich options. All orders come with bread and French fries, but there are lots of side options too.

The Bad: I was disappointed to find that there wasn’t a kids menu to choose from, so it made ordering something for my toddler very difficult. (We ended up just letting him choose what he wanted to eat from our plates.)

The only negative thing I can say about the food is that the mild sauce tasted too sweet (like cinnamon), but the mixed sauce (a mix of the mild and hot) was great.

This is a good bbq place. A big up for them is their sauce. Their meats aren't as seasoned compared to other places, but they do cook with wood, which gives good flavor, but without the sauce, it is just regularly cooked meats. The lemon shake ups are consistently the best drink to order here. The fries can be hit or miss and they do seem to be giving less than before sadly. Their daily deals are good, best value is on Sundays. Their ribs and rib tips can sometimes be a complete miss, but when they're good, they're really good. Don't order the brisket sandwich though, it's not that good sadly.

**Update: since the one in Urbana closed, sadly the quality of service at this one has decreased steadily over time. Ever since they shifted the workers over from Urbana the sense of urgency to appropriately serve food in a timely manner has decreased. There are constant hold-ups in the lines as they keep messing up orders and it's really a shame as my earlier review had nothing but positive things to say. If this keeps going, I'll have to change...
