I just left the Mad Goat in Champaign. I walked and noticed all the tables were occupied by singles with computers - including tables for four. I had come to meet friends for lunch. I waited for about 6 minutes and then decided to ask the bearded guy behind the counter if it would be possible to bring one of the tables from outside, where is was 85 degrees and in the sun, to a little open area inside. He said 'no'. I then said the place didn't seem to have much turn over and looked a little like a study hall. No humor from this guy who told me how loyal he was to his customers. My thought was....great for your customers but....then I said....'don't you want some new customers as well? Your comment doesn't seem that you are particularly interested in new customers. With that he told me to leave. Well, I leave it to you. Is the Mad Goat interested in new customers? I'd say absolutely not. Now, Art Mart can do this, let people spend time with coffee and their computers for a couple of reasons.....they have more seating and they encourage people not to drink coffee and work at their computers for a couple of hours at lunch time. It works! IT is a GREAT PLACE. Mad Goat should be so lucky! I've never had anyone at Art Mart speak to me the way the bearded guy behind the counter did...
Read moreBest coffee experience I've had in C-U!
Swung by here with my wife on opening day and got a pourover, strawberry banana smoothie, and 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches. Wow - honestly the most surprising thing was that this was truly the best bagel I've ever had? Highly recommend.
They have a couple of different bean options for pour over (I went for the Ethiopian Wush Wush. Tasted like a bourbon barrel IPA coffee. Incredible), and it's the best pour over I've had in a long time.
Prices were also unbelievably good - 2 breakfast sandwiches, medium pour over, small smoothie came out to about ~$23.
The best part, though, was getting to talk with Daniel, one of the co-owners. My wife and I were shocked at how kind and genuine he was. Had the kind of interaction with him that made us go "we're super excited to give our money to you as a local small business."
All-in-all, I can't recommend Mad Goat enough. Really kind people, really exceptional food/drinks, awesome coffee shop vibes in downtown Champaign. Excited to go back often!
(P.S. there's Mad Goat-specific parking on the side of their building between Black Dog and Mad Goat. We paid for a meter by Maize but realized afterwards we could've...
Read moreStaff is always friendly, but whether my drink is made correctly or not is a guessing game. Today was the third time I picked up my order after ordering online and it was incorrect. The first time my drink was made incorrectly, there was no syrup. The second time it was made incorrectly, it was made with whole milk when I ordered oat milk. Today, I ordered caramel syrup, paid for extra, and there was no syrup in my coffee at all. I had messaged the location hoping to resolve the issue and was left on read. As someone who lives downtown and has been going to Mad Goat multiple times a week since I moved into my place last November, I’m incredibly disappointed. I have given so much money to this place, which will no longer be a thing. If I’m paying $8+ for coffee, I’d like it to be made correctly and if it’s wrong, I’d at least like the issue to be rectified. I will not be going back. I’d rather spend my money at 7brew, knowing my order will be made how I like it instead of wasting $8+ on a drink with crap customer service from the...
