Murphy's Pub — Restaurant in Champaign

We came in after a show at the recommendation of someone we met. We aren’t local and we wanted something to eat. It was around 11:30pm. We understood the kitchen closed at midnight so we kept it simple. We ordered two chicken quesadillas, when we finally got served (we sat at the bar and there were 3 bartenders and 2 bar backs). It took 25 minutes to get the quesadillas and they weren’t cooked to order, they were loaded with fried onions, the plates were dirty. The female bartender finally asked for our order after 15 minutes of ignoring (we were the wrong the gender, she was happy to help the men). My friend ordered a White Russian. The bartender filled half a rocks glass that was actually broken. Then didn’t even slide it to her, just left it sitting on the rail. The male bartender remade it for her in a new glass when my friend reported it was broken. He at least filled the glass a little more. I ordered a carbliss and despite there being a variety of flavors she just brought me cranberry, never asked what flavor I wanted. They never checked on us or asked if we wanted another drink. Had a horrible experience on 3/29 at 8:30pm. Went in to get some food before a concert, ordered food and no alcohol so no need to check ID. After ordering we took a seat. A minute or so later an employee approached our table of 5 and asked for ID's. He ONLY checked mine and nobody else at the table (everyone else was drinking alcohol and much younger than myself) then took it away to the manager. He then came back and told me to get out (reminder - I wasn't drinking alcohol). I refused and asked for my ID back. The employee wouldn't give my ID back, so I took it up with the manager. The manager repeated over and over that my ID was a fake without providing a shred of proof. I have valid Wisconsin DL. The manager continued to illegally withhold my ID. He did not ask for any alternative forms of identification and refused to give any reason why. I called the police. After the police checked my ID and my alternate forms of identification my ID was returned to me without any problems. Service provided to the customers could use some work. Post iConverge, a few of the grad students gathered there. We weren’t being belligerent or rude. Some young blonde dude was working the night I was there (the evening of 9/11). He was super dismissive and rude. I asked to purchase a tee and he asked if I could wait until closing. He clearly wasn’t busy. He just didn’t want to do the work. I then asked if they were selling food. He then replied “the kitchen closed at 12am!”

I’m sorry, umm was I supposed to know that, as an out of towner?

The staff needs to be trained to communicate and serve professionals over the age of 30+ (or humans, in general) way better. We’re not some annoying, drunk, college aged kids that are being ignorant and rude. I expect to be treated with respect, if I’m treating you with...
