Went for a Saturday lunch, and decided probably will be a beer only stop from now on(although no tap list makes it a little harder to decide from the table). Three plates ordered. Chicken Caesar salad was okay outside of the chicken. The chicken looked like it was cooked a couple days ago and reheated. Half a bite was enough to decide it wasn’t edible. Chicken cooks in about 8 mins so I’m not sure how much of a shortcut you need to take with it. Chicken and waffles was decent. Fried chicken was cooked nicely but the waffles were leaking oil on the plate and they were served with a gravy that had a hair in it. I asked if there was any syrup with the chicken and waffles and was told the chef can’t serve it with it cause they have to heat it up all together. The expo dropped a piece of toast on the table then proceeded to say sorry and grab it bare handed and throw it back on the plate. Was a kid, so I didn’t say anything but that’s pretty gross. Last dish was the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was probably the best of the three, however the expo dropped the ketchup in front of the table and it exploded on the floor which in turn landed on the daughters pants and all over my shoes. Was the same kid and he was very apologetic so we once again didn’t say anything outside of it’s okay. Me and my wife have worked in The industry for a very long time so we tried to be polite and we still tipped 20% but somebody needs to hear that this was a really bad experience. All of our stomachs were turning before we could make it home and we live on the same side of 169. Definitely won’t be back for food,...
Read moreClive’s Roadhouse is a small, local bar/restaurant chain. We sampled the Champlin location on a relatively quiet Friday evening.
The decor is blasé and formulaic. It seems to be trying to appeal to a broad middle-class audience, and has succeeded in serving up something serviceable but quite uninspired. Similarly, the background music was carefully selected to be up undistracting, inoffensive and bland.
On to the food:
Looked forward to the pretzel appetizer, as the website image for this item looked great. It was disappointing, though. The pretzels were doughy and undercooked, a surprise based on their appearance. The texture was just awful. The accompanying cheese sauce was quite bland.
The walleye sandwich was decent. Fish was well cooked, and the ciabatta bread was fresh and tasty.
The shrimp gumbo tasted good but was very thin. Proper gumbo should be much thicker.
My wife had the burrito which was substantial and tasty, though she thought it was a bit too spicy. She’s very sensitive to spice, but was still able to eat half the burrito, so I’d say the level of spice is probably just right for most people.
Servers were earnest and attentive , though mostly very young and obviously inexperienced. This might be an issue of you have a larger group or one with challenging requirements.
Bottom line for me: I doubt I’ll be back. This restaurant does not seem to offer anything that stands out from the crowd, so what’s the point? There are much better choices out there, in this class of venue, whether you’re looking for food...
Read moreI have never been to a restaurant & have a server walk out to the parking lot following me to my car with my two kids. Asking me why he got the tip he did? He felt he bent over backwards for us. Witch he did for the most part of us that has a guilted free diet. The problem is their gluten free menu has items on it that are not gluten free. So we ordered then he would come out and tell us we couldn't get that food. We have celiac disease. This is not a choice to eat gluten free. He made a point to tell us that he made sure he didn't get my kids sick witch he could of not cared. He never refilled my water or pop unless I hunted him down to ask. Our dinner took over 3hours for us to get the food because he kept coming out telling us we couldn't get what we ordered. My son was only able to get steak bites. But we paid $14.98. A salad for $12.98 with no meat or fish on it. Our bill was over $120. His tip was $9.00 and he said he had never had such a bad tip like us before. So my mother in law gave him $5 more and the waiter threw it on the ground and said he wasn't going to take it. My daughter picked it up and gave it to him. He did take the money. He told us we should feel awful as people for giving such a bad tip to someone. Then walked away from our truck, back into the restaurant. My biggest problem was we paid for everything even things we couldn't eat. Our glasses were not refilled with out hunting him down to have it refilled. To be at a restaurant for over 3 hours and be treated like...
