So I really wanted to give this place five stars based on the vibe when I walked up. It was busy as in there were at least eight groups waiting outside. I walked in to put my name on the list and was told it was a 30 minute wait. OK that’s not too bad. There’s a fun vibe out front and the live DJ can be heard so I was good to wait with my three friends. However, I ended up waiting an hour. Every time I went back to double check after 40 minutes I was told I would be getting in soon. I understand it’s busy, but if you had told me upfront that it would be an hour I wouldn’t have been so irritated. I also watched two groups of four that had arrived after me going before me. I’m finally sat at my table, and we had a wonderful server helping us. He was upbeat and fun and goofy just like all of us were. To start we ordered the cannoli donuts and the strawberry, crème brûlée bruschetta. The donuts were amazing!! The crème brûlée not so much. I envisioned a crème brûlée dish with strawberries on top and pieces of toasted baguette to dip in. Instead, we got three massive slices of thin cut bread with gobs of crème brûlée dumped on top and some sliced strawberries. Unfortunately, that set up made the bread, soft and doughy. The crème brûlée tasted wonderful, but I was really hoping to have it on a crunchy piece of a baguette. My friend and I split the crispy potato skins and the avocado toast . The potato skins were amazing. Everything about them was delicious the crunch of the potato skins, the meat, egg, sauce, just all of it! But unfortunately the avocado toast was lacking. Imagine a piece of Texas toast had a baby with brioche, and that would be how thick this slice of bread was!! Yes it was smeared with a thin layer of avocado and had a fried egg and other elements, but the thickness was overkill and the flavors definitely didn’t pop! Now for my mimosa! I splurged! I wanted cotton candy and glitter and a pinwheel! So for $32 I bought the Mega glitter bomb mimosa! Yes you get a whole bottle of champagne, cotton candy glitter a pinwheel, but you hardly get any juice!!! A classic mimosa calls for a 50/50 ratio however I received probably 3-5 ounces. Sooooo I basically bought a bottle of champagne which sucks because I LOVE a good mimosa. So sadly the first visit will probably also be my last. Great vibes, amazing decor, top notch staff, but I can for the...
Read moreI woke up this morning hungry and I made up my mind I was going to try something new and different. So I placed my faith in my yelp account and I ended up for the first time at the Hash Kitchen. I have to say the vibe, the decor and layout are done very well. The music and the energy may not be for everyone but the balance of it, well they got it right. Think Vegas hip but with a very neighborhood spot feel to the staff right here in Arizona. Disco ball, DJ booth and bass thump at 720 am isn’t for all of those seeking breakfast but guess what, I wasn’t alone the place already had a steady crowd arriving and all seemed ready for the experience, and by 8 am capacity and the party was on. Now if you are a Bloody Mary fan or specialty cocktails with a breakfast twist this place is your Zion! The Build a Bloody Bar is literally the best I’ve seen hands down. As to the menu I had a hard time deciding between the banana fosters pancakes or the banana split brioche French toast. And the braised short ribs in three forms from burrito to Benedict well I was stuck, then I saw a few dishes get delivered and I end up with the French toast and the Bennie short ribs. Let’s start with the French toast, it arrived with fresh strawberries, blueberries and mascarpone cream flipped upside down inside an ice cream cone. It did not disappoint on any level and what’s pictured is the half order so beware. Now I’m not the Benedict fan in my family but I went out on a limb and was delightfully surprised by the delicious flavors of the Benedict over the hash browns and short ribs. Those flavors were balanced well. Now I didn’t eat much of the additional bowl of pappas, “that’s Spanish for potatoes..lol but they were adequate. For me a bit of an overload, for me I would have preferred that side be maybe a fruit or something else but hey the chef and staff know what they are doing so I enjoyed it and sat quietly observing. In the end my server and the entire staff seemed genuinely happy to be doing their thing and the ones I interacted with were cheerful and attentive. If you get a chance hit the Hash, worth every dollar and the time. Go early, go hung over...
Read moreLots of mixed feelings about the new Hash Kitchen in Chandler. I really want to love it, but I just can't get there yet. We've been to this new location a couple times and each experience is a hit or miss.
PROS: On our first first, the service was great. The manager came by and checked on us and several other servers that weren't even our person checked in or refilled our water. They have a rather lengthy menu with a variety of options, which is nice. The bacon is also crazy good, which isn't a hard thing for bacon to be, but there's something about theirs that's way better than "normal" bacon. Awesome decor, live music (sometimes a little loud), and a mimosa bar do help this place stand out from the crowd.
CONS: It's clear the staff is really confused about which items are and aren't gluten free. This is a real problem for someone like me that legitimately can't eat gluten. I've been told a variety of different and conflicting things visit to visit, so I'd suggest the staff get a refresher stat before someone gets really sick.
The food is either a hit or miss entirely. My husband (who's not gluten free) had one awesome meal and one that was pretty lackluster. Both of my meals were so-so.
From a gluten free standpoint only, the mark is being missed rather seriously, which is a bummer because this is the exact type of place you'd think would be killing it.
First and foremost, I greatly appreciate that they're trying to have gluten free options. It's helpful when you (or a friend/family member) has an allergy (or celiac disease) because if one person can't eat at an establishment, then no one ends up going at all and everyone loses. But, to be honest, the batter being used for the waffles and pancakes is not good. I would highly recommend revisiting the options available on the market. Additionally, there doesn't appear to be that many gluten free options overall, which is a downside because their competitors (like Snooze or U.S. Egg) have a TON of really good, very...
