I’m not sure if they’re the owners and/or employees, but they lack a significant amount of people skills. This is the first time I’ve been somewhere where I feel awkward and uncomfortable ordering more items…
My boyfriend and I ordered our phillys via Uber eats for pickup on our way home. Once there, I saw they had a pink drink and I asked the cashier if that was lemonade, she said yes. I said “I’ll take one” and she got this panicked, frantic look on her face as though she thought I was expecting her to give it to me for free or something and responded by saying that the lemonade was not part of the Uber eats order. I never said or implied it was and said I was planning on paying… she then proceeds to ask if we had cash and I’m assuming it’s b/c it was under $5 and I know credit card machines charge the vendor fees. When we said no, you could tell she was bothered by the fact that we were going to pay with our card for one drink.
She proceeded to tell me that “next time add it to your Uber eats order”. Due to this weird and uncomfortable interaction, I forgot to ask for a side of mayo and on my way out asked if they had mayo (I was thinking the packets of mayo) and the 2 older people and the cashier all got this panicked look on their faces??????????????? and said they charge for condiments, which is fine/understandable, especially being locally owned. However, being that the cashier had already made a big deal over the lemonade purchase, I could only imagine the drama over a side of mayo.
For that reason, I said nvm and that it was fine. Once again……………… the cashier instructed me to make sure to include those requests on Uber eats when ordering. Again, weird. Here I am trying to give them additional business and they’re making me feel uncomfortable, weird, and awkward for it.
So word to the wise, make sure you don’t forget to order/add something in the original order.
It’s likely they thought we were Uber drivers picking up an Uber eats order, but regardless if we were a driver or not, that’s not how you treat patrons especially being locally owned when you don’t have the resources of a chain.
Had I had a better first time experience, I would probably return even tho I’ve had better phillies elsewhere since it’s close to my house and I like supporting local businesses.
I will be taking my...
Read moreI first found this hidden gem in 2014 thanks to a conversation at my local dog park. Back then, their menu wasn’t online, so I snapped a photo and posted it with my first review, and I’ve been a loyal fan ever since.
From the outside, this place might not scream "life-changing sandwich," but the moment you take your first bite, you'll know you're somewhere special. The food is outstanding, flavorful, generous, and made with love. It's the kind of food that makes East Coasters feel like they’re back home and locals feel like they just discovered their new favorite spot.
But it’s not just the food, it’s the people. The warmth and kindness of this family-run business make it stand out even more. Rita, Sarah, and Jacob always greet me with genuine smiles, and even after we moved away from Arizona in 2023 and returned two years later, they remembered my name like no time had passed. (They still tease my husband for forgetting his, all in good fun!)
Megan was the first person we met when we came in all those years ago, and she instantly made us feel welcome. She’s amazing. Although she is now a successful realtor and no longer working in the shop, the heart of the business she helped build is still the same. It is all about family, flavor, and fantastic service.
I’ll also say this. In a time when others have tried to imitate what this family built, this original spot continues to shine. Their integrity, quality, and kindness speak louder than anything else ever could.
Pro tip: Preorder if you can. They get busy because they’re just that good.
Support real local businesses. Support real people. And most of all, treat yourself to one of the best meals you’ll have...

Walking into Phillies Famous Steaks and Hoagies feels like stepping right into the soul of Philadelphia. The minute you enter, you’re not just greeted by the aroma of delicious food but by the warmth of a family-owned establishment that wraps you up in joy and love, just like home. It’s a scene straight out of "Cheers," where everyone seems to know your name, even if you’re a first-timer.
Sarah made our ordering experience effortless and fun, guiding us through the impressive menu options. Funny enough, my wife, son, and I all landed on the same order—the home-smoked brisket sandwich. And let me tell you, that decision was spot-on. The bread? Light, fluffy, airy—it complimented and completed the sandwich perfectly, but the star of the show was undoubtedly that tender, juicy brisket. We kicked it up with onions, jalapeños, and their special sauce on the side, which brought the whole thing to another level. Every bite was an explosion of flavor, with just the right amount of heat.
But what truly makes Phillies stand out is the people behind the counter. The family here is the heartbeat of the place, serving more than just food—they serve connection, warmth, and community. Every meal is a blessing to those who walk through the door.
As we devoured our sandwiches, it felt like we were strolling the streets of Philly, hoagie in hand, red cream soda in the other. If you find yourself in town, give this place your time and presence. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. This isn’t just a sandwich; it’s a taste of Philly and a true community experience...
