TLDR: Great lunch spot! Plenty of tasty options at decent prices. Come for their lunch special.
Vibe: 4/5. Megabytes is tucked away in a small business park close to the Dulles Expo Center. Inside, the cafe functions as a counter service style restaurant, where you can order directly at the counter with the staff or on tablets located at the counter. They have a decent amount of seating, consisting of both 2 and 4 top tables, so larger groups can be accommodated. Separate from the main lunch kitchen counter is a coffee bar, where you can order such drinks as Vietnamese coffee and various lattes. Lots of fun video game decor can be seen throughout the space, with a few game consoles setup on the side for those that want to hit the sticks after lunch. Restrooms are shared with the rest of the office space, so you have to exit Megabytes and walk down a hallway to find them.
Service: 5/5. The staff at Megabytes was very accommodating and helpful from start to finish. When I first arrived, I was a bit confused about the ordering system ie. whether I order at the tablet or with a staff member. This was quickly remedied by one of the staff members explaining I could do either and that my order would be called out and brought to my table when ready. They also made sure to recommend the lunch special, which is well priced and offers diners a bento box style of their top sellers. The helpfulness from the staff made for an overall better experience!
Food: 4/5. My table of 2 had a fantastic lunch. I ordered the pork banh mi, which comes with all the typical banh mi fixings on a crunchy baguette. The banhi was of decent size and checked all of the banh mi boxes with tender pork, rich pate and tasty pickled veggies. My friend ordered the loco moco lunch special, which includes a serving of loco moco, a spam musubi and a side of macaroni salad for $12. This was a superb deal, as the portion sizes were generous for the cost. My friend said everything tasted great and highly recommended it. We also ordered spicy pork fries to share, which were tasty, however I felt the fries portion was lacking for the $10 price tag. Overall, Megabytes is a solid lunch spot that is a perfect place to grab a quick byte before heading back...
Read moreI have eaten here a number of times, and good Lord, their job is one of the hardest on the planet, and they have challenges. Recently, I was home from work, and decided to run my Megabytes for brunch. Having not been there in a while, I wasn't sure what was the practice for ordering - nothing is there to indicate "order here". In the event, the fellow behind the counter gave me an annoyed look as he nodded at the cashier. [This is also problematic at this location, as the restaurant has a much better than average selection of beverages, and one must know to select those before ordering, or have an awkward moment with the cashier, going through the order from the menu board, then thinking about drinks, and either doing without, or cancelling the order to go get the drinks, and return to the cashier to start over.] I ordered two Paninis with sausage and egg. Both of us wanted veggies added, and I requested that. While everything else on the breakfast menu shows "with cheese", the paninis do not, and I was not expecting cheese to be added with the request for the addition veggies. Unfortunately, both paninis were served with cheese, diminishing the meal. I must say, in past visits, their lunch menu had much to be said for it, in both variety and quality, and I am so pleased they appear to have survived...
Read moreI had seen the name Megabytes Eatery appear constantly when I've looked for new places to try in the area but never pulled the trigger until this past week. Everything listed on the receipt in the photos was exceptional and prices were fantastic with the vast majority of their menu being under $10. I also went back and got an order of their Spicy Mega Rolls I believe it was called; 2 spicy pork rolls which were absolutely phenomenal. I'm not a coffee drinker but they also have a neat little coffee bar inside the restaurant as well if that's to your liking. Being as I am an IT professional, I absolutely love the aesthetic of this place. The entire establishment is covered in all sorts of PC motherboards, circuit boards, various tech equipment, IT books, etc. There is also a retro gaming section which has everything from XBOX 360 down to Atari. I would guess there are 6-8 different consoles which are all playable! The staff was also exceptionally friendly and professional with any member more than willing to give recommendations on what to try. They also have quite a number of specials daily. Megabytes Eatery definitely is a hole-in-the-wall type place that certainly has a dedicated local following as it can get quite crowded during the lunch rush. I will absolutely be a consistent...
